When did you start feeling uncomfortable?

I'm 13 weeks today and my belly is growing at a quick pace! I look how I did at like 16-17 weeks with my DD. I want to get the nursery done and some other projects done before I'm too uncomfortable, when was this for you?

Re: When did you start feeling uncomfortable?

  • I'm 21 weeks, and I'm not sure yet if it's just a bad week or if I'm to the uncomfortable stage.  This is my first pregnancy, but I'm also very short (5'0").  At 16 weeks, I was measuring at 20 weeks, but I'm not sure where I'm measuring now.  They've also put me on modified bed rest, so this could be some of my discomfort.  I just feel like all my muscles are tightening up.  I'm definitely glad we got a jump start on the nursery, etc.

  • I'm 17 weeks and tired and crampy and just plan blah. I never felt this way with singletons
  • Great! LOL. I appreciate the honest responses. I am already feeling weird pains in my tailbone when I pick up DD (she's 28 lbs). I don't know if that has to do with the fact that I had a severely bruised tailbone when I delivered DD (she was sunny-side up).

I'm also going to Florida for a week in mid-May and traveling with my toddler, I'll be 19 weeks. Yikes!!!

  • There's uncomfortable and then there's exhaustingly unable to do simple tasks.

I hit my wall around 31-32w. That's when daily life got hard. I was uncomfortable far earlier than that but easily able to adjust and adapt.

  • When would you guys suggest getting the projects done like the nursery? My doctor has me on mandatory modified bedrest from 24-28 weeks, I know I can still walk around but I probably shouldn't be doing a lot of lifting and bending. We don't find out the sexes until 18 weeks so should I try to get everything done between 18-24?

  • I started feeling it around week 22. As for when to get things done... I insisted we get painted before the shower which will be on week 27 for me, and finish up everything by week 32.

I might be going on bed rest at some point but have no eta at this point. Also... I didn't find bout the sex of my girl until week 22, she was very stubborn, they checked for it at 5 different appointments before she gave it up :)
  • Personally, and I fully admit to being a downer, I couldn't do anything that early even though everyone will say have it all done by 28w. I made some purchases but everything stayed in boxes until after 30w. Granted MH did everything, but we didn't do it early.

My boys came at 34w and spent 13 days in the NICU. Whatever didn't get done before their arrival was done while they were in the hospital. If babies come early, they don't get to go home right away and while you'll want to spend all your time in the NICU, keeping busy keeps your mind off of not having your babies home.

  • I started feeling noticeably uncomfortable after 20-21 weeks, I think.  Previously I was struggling with a lot of fatigue, nausea, and headaches, but it was when I was 20+ that I noticed the shortness of breath starting.  I am 29 weeks today (measuring 37) and I definitely feel the way I did when I was full term with my singletons.  I can't walk for very long without pain/discomfort/braxton hicks, and finding comfortable positions is hard.  I have no idea how I will make it 2 more months, but people do it all the time!  I think it is hitting me harder than I expected because I have two kiddos at home.  I have the luxury of being able to lay down during the day sometimes while they play, but I also have to pick up after them and tend to them all day.  Having older kids + a twin pregnancy is exhausting.

  • I'm 33w now and hit a wall around 31w after a huge painting project. I way overdid it and was in L&D a few days later in PTL (not saying this caused it but this is when I started feeling really bad). I remember being uncomfortable around 20 weeks with a lot of side pain but this is way worse. Also, I flew with DD at 20/21w and could to hold her in my lap bc my belly was too big and it was uncomfortable. Thankfully DH was with us! Now I can't sleep bc my ribs hurt so bad (I've moved into our spare bedroom, which has a memory foam mattress and that helps a ton), it's really difficult to turn over in bed or get out of bed/off the couch, I rarely pick up DD unless necessary, etc. I've been really active this entire pregnancy and I think that has helped but there have been phases where I have been uncomfortable and phases where I have felt great. Personally, we are waiting to do the nursery until after they are born bc they won't be in there right away and my mom will be staying with us the first several weeks in that room. I'd say sooner is better than later.
  • We are only a few days apart for EDDs!. I am right there with you. I keep waiting for the 2nd tri energy to hit, I feel so rundown and my ute is uncomfortable already. I look the same as I did with my DS at 20 weeks. Yikes!

My toddler is 16 months old and giving me a run for my money :) This is going to get ugly. I keep warning my DH...

  • I started feeling sluggish around 21-22 weeks. I am 25 weeks today and really need to listen to my body to survive the day. I do a little bit and then rest. Going upstairs leaves me totally winded at the top of the steps. And sleeping is just plain awful. I feel like no matter which side I sleep on, I am squashing a baby, but, the left side seems to be the most comfortable options. And pillows....lots and lots of pillows!!! I have been sleeping in our spare bedroom for the last 2-3 weeks and take up the entire bed (Queen size).

This did not happen to me this time.  I feel like I skipped 2nd tri completely.
I agree 100%.  Being pregnant with twins is like having the shortest 2nd tri and the loooongest 3rd tri ever.  But for what it's worth, I only really got the 2nd tri burst of energy with my first :-).  When I had my second singleton, I was still tired in 2nd tri.

  • I think I have the 2nd tri wind right now. It started last week. I think I should take advantage of it because it sounds like it won't last long! I'm still tired every night by 7 though!

  • I felt great up until about 26/27 weeks, when I started having trouble getting comfortable sleeping. That said, I think part of it had to do with the fact that I was pulled off of exercise at 22w (and not allowed to do anything but go to work at my desk job and lie on the couch), and on MBR at 26w. I always felt great on days I worked out -- it loosened everything up. When I was forced to become a couch potato, I think that just accelerated the get-uncomfortable process.

  • I hit my wall around 31 weeks. I'm 35+1 measuring 43 weeks. They're measuring big (have an estimated 12lbs of just baby in there, and who knows how much more with 2 sacs/2placentas). I broke down one night at 31 weeks thinking I'd never make it. It's hard. Take it easy, and just hang in there. The longer those babes bake, the better. Do your best to rest and take care of yourself.

  • I think I first started getting uncomfortable around 22 weeks because I wasn't sleeping well due to restless legs and reflux.  I think I hit a wall last week from being uncomfortable.  I think part of it was going to my OB appt and finding out that I'm measuring 33 weeks and realizing how much longer I have.  I've also been getting braxton hicks most afternoons and that is uncomfortable.  I've also gotten carpel tunnel, which doesn't help my sleeping.  Chasing after my toddler has gotten challenging, too, especially since my husband travels for work and I'm by myself.

  • I've been uncomfortable for weeks. Mostly just physically exhausted though, so I won't even be doing the nursery. DH says to leave it all to him. I can barely look after DD and just have no energy stores; the babies take everything from me!

Yeah there's no 2nd tri energy really, so don't wait for it. I think I started feeling bigger and more tired at 14-15 weeks.

  • I will be 32 weeks tomorrow and I still feel pretty good, my belly feels very heavy and my right leg will go numb when I walk a lot at work but I still sleep well at night. I think when I start losing more sleep and then have to go to work it will really hit me. I probably measure around 38 weeks at this point and I think the next two weeks will be rough since the boys seem to be growing rapidly.

  • It hit me at 21 weeks. I had to go to Asia for two weeks for work 20 and 21 and by week 2 I was dragging!!!! Week 22 (now) severe swelling/cankles and back pain started. Can't imagine what 30 will be like!

  • I've been uncomfortable for a while now, but it's manageable. At 27 weeks I talked to the doc about working PT instead of FT and that seems to have helped.

I'm very glad that we organized the nursery early on, because I do not have the energy or capability to organize furniture, clean out rooms, put things in boxes, take things to donate, etc. I am now at the point where it's just decorating and organizing, so it's not too bad. I'd still like to be done by 32 weeks though.

Just listen to your body and try not to push yourself too much. I painted in the nursery last night (just one wall) and was crampy and achy the whole night. It's tough not being able to do what you used to, but it's only temporary!

And for what it's worth, I got the 2nd tri energy! That's when I did most the reorganizing/cleaning of the house since I didn't know how long it'd last! Unfortunately it ended right when 3rd tri started :P

  • Started right around 13wks, had trouble sleeping, very low energy and was still having severe morning sickness.  Now at 24wks I have a lot of pressure and cramping (no contractions and my cervix is still good), having also leg pain from some nice varicose veins that have popped up.  I can not imagine making it to the end.  I feel like my belly is getting bigger by the hour.  Now in the 2nd trimester still haven't gotten that second wind, I am not on bed rest but supposed to be off my feet as much as possible.  So that is frustrating too.  Hang in there you are not alone.

  • I am 33 weeks, but have become more uncomfortable within the past few days.  Even sitting at a desk for work is intolerable.  I go for daily walks, but those have become uncomfortable more - I think the added weight is taking its toll on my lower back.  The normally very comfy couch at home is now the most uncomfortable thing to sit on because I just feel like when I sit the girls float up into my ribs.  My feet KILL...every past running injury I have endured feels like it has come back...stress fractures in my feet being the biggest ones I notice.  Up until now, I have been really good.  Any activities (chores) that involve bending down/over are out of the question.  If I drop something, it stays on the floor.

  • Almost 21 weeks and I have noticed its a little bit of a challenge get on/off the couch. Sleeping is a constant tossing and turning. I nap alot during the day now. Im still walking my street daily for a little bit of exercise. But I'm not sure how long that'll continue!
