Easter Basket Grass

Do you use the shredded Easter basket grass? I despise the stuff because it sticks to everything and I seem to always have a kid wanting to eat it. It's like those icicles you throw on Christmas trees, it never fully goes away. If you don't use it, what is your alternative?

Re: Easter Basket Grass

  • I use the paper crinkle kind, not plastic kind.

They sell edible grass at Target.

  • I hate the stuff.  Last year I shredded up some colored construction paper in our paper shredder and used that.  This year I just stuck a few pieces of tissue paper in there.

I think they also sell colored paper pre-shredded in bags too.

Talk to me about this edible grass....
  • I had some nice paper straw I used the last few years. Totally forgot to use it this year. My alternative was stuffing the baskets with so much crap there was no room for any grass anyway!

  • I use the crinkly, paper grass.  I don't think it sticks to stuff like the plastic kind does and it's easier to clean up.
  • I did the edible last year and it was gross and ended up a big sticky mess instead of just a big mess. This year, no grass. No alternatives. Just put the stuff in the basket.

  • I'm a glutton for punishment and use the dumb grass.

  • No plastic grass! I'm still finding small drifts of cedar from Christmas hiding behind the bookshelf. Why are holiday decorations so messy?

That's where my mind went too. :D

  • I bought paper grass, but didn't end up using it. I bought pettiskirts for the girls, so stuffed those on the bottom and they added a lot of fluff. I just stuffed my son's basket without it.
  • I haven't ever used the edible grass, but I imagine it tastes like Lala said. :) It's next to the regular stuff usually.
  • I use the plastic stuff. I wasn't thrilled with the idea of possibly having plastic grass everywhere, but I have yet to have a problem with it. My kids never touch it and I may find one or two pieces attached to things when I clean up every year.

  • I did tissue paper this year. It doesn't look as good, but it took them 5 seconds to tear everything out of the baskets, so I think I'm just going to leave it out all together next year. We'll probably have a cat by then and I don't want to deal with that aftermath anyway. I hope everyone has a happy Easter!

  • No grass here. I hate that stuff! I mean, it looks nice in the basket and all, but cleaning it up makes me stabby.

  • My mom picked up the edible Easter grass for me to try for the boys' baskets. They pulled it out, played with it, got it everywhere and did not attempt to put it in their mouths once! So I spent the time before getting them dressed for church vacuuming up the *@$& grass while the boys screamed b/c they're afraid of the vacuum. No grass next year.

  • No grass. I hate that stuff. I have used it in the past and feel like I find it for weeks so I quit using it. I just put their stuff in the basket.

Nope. The cats eat it. We don't do grass. Just shove the crap in the basket.
    Same

    Oh expect minus the cats
  • I'm a quilter and have lots of fabric laying around, so I just put a yard or two of fabric in there and fluff it up.
