Left Nipple Soreness

This is so strange and I don't even know how to properly describe it- but my left nipple hurts. There's nothing visibly wrong with it, no milk blister, no cracks. LO is 5.5 months and does pull on my nips every once in a while, but this has been bothering me for weeks. I can't remember anything specific happening to it.

It's a feeling of soreness, as if someone just pinched it and twisted. It hurts when I nurse or pump and is just uncomfortable when I'm not nursing/pumping.

Anyone experience something similar? I've had months of pain-free nursing, so this is taking me back to the dark days of when that shiz hurt! Any thoughts?

    This same exact thing happened to me today, no idea why. I did take a nap and nurse LO for 3 hours this morning and I think maybe it was just overused...it's feeling better as the night goes on. Sorry, no advice, but can comisserate.

    This exactly, just shy of 9 mos pp! I was dx'd with mastitis and did a round of antibiotics to no avail. I'll be following this post!

    I think the culprit with my LO might be a newly poor latch because she is getting 2 more teeth on top, making a total of six up there and I think she's latching strangly and scraping with her teeth while nursing. The reason I think it's related to her latch is that my nipple does not hurt if I touch it, hand express milk from it, pump, or just while I am doing nothing. Clothing doesn't hurt when it brushes it or anything. Hoping that's all it is and that it will get better in time.
