Pregnant after a Loss

Anyone thinking about taking your own hospital gown?

I wasn't into this when I first saw these during my pregnancy with Ds. But remember thinking it would have been nice to have them when we were immediately flocked with family at the hospital. Kinda thinking of buying one from etsy. Dh rolled his eyes at me. So now I kinda want one, but ....just torn.

Re: Anyone thinking about taking your own hospital gown?

  • I actually received a hospital gown as a gift from a good friend. I know it'll get icky, but for those initial pictures I'll at least be wearing something "cute", rather than a drab hospital gown. I'm pretty lucky, since my DH doesn't really care what I do, as long as I'm comfortable.

  • I am bringing something to labor in and my own clothes to change into.  I hate hospital gowns and always feel "sick" when I am in them, if that makes sense. Maybe it is negative associations.  I want to be comfortable so I will bring my own clothes.

  • I wore a hospital gown the entire time with DD. During labor I needed continuous monitoring due to my induction and then ended up getting so hot and peeled even the hospital gown off for the last few hours. I did hate the heaviness of the hospital gowns after she was born, so I bought some cheap black nightgowns to wear after this LO's birth.

  • You may just want to confirm hospital policy before making your purchase.  For example, I know that my hospital does not allow you to wear anything but their gown during labor.  Not sure what the policy would be for after, especially if you have a c-section or any complications.

  • Ok I hate the name, but saw one of these on a woman who was on a birth photography website. Www.prettypushers.com ... They are just as accessible as a hospital gown but without the high neck and opens in front vs. back and is specifically designed for laboring. I don't know if I'll get one but I think if I did I'd likey get one of these.

  • I don't understand this trend at.all. You will get blood and who knows what else on whatever you labor in.
For after birth, just bring a comfy robe and some comfy clothes.

    Agreed.

Pretty much anything that can come out of your body will likely end up on the gown worn during birth. The first 24 hours pp are often pretty bloody as well. I would just assume ruin something that I am not paying OOP for, TYVM.

Once the worst of the bleeding has let up I have some yoga pants and nursing tops to wear.
