Easter egg hunt

This is a post and run as a I am at the inlaws. What is the point of an Easter egg hunt? Growing up my parents hid our baskets and we had to search for those but I always thought it was just for fun. I have never done an egg hunt. So you fill their baskets with gifts and then empty it out so they can refill it with candy? Or do you hide the gifts too? School me on your typical egg hunt.

Started our exploration into the world of international adoption June 2012.  We have no idea what this is going to look like but we are excited to find out!

    DD gets a big basket on the kitchen table with a few gifts. The eggs we hide usually have smaller gifts or candy in them (this year it's little Schleich animals). She's 2, so obviously they're not really well hidden, but it's mostly for the fun of the hunt and of opening the eggs afterward.

    ETA: She has a second, smaller basket that we reuse every year for the egg hunt so we don't have to empty the big one.

    The eggs are hidden. The empty basket is left on the table. You get your basket and go to find the eggs to fill it.

    When I was growing up we didn't have any kind of egg hunt in the morning, we just had our baskets of treats, then in the afternoon we went outside for a big egg hunt of plastic eggs filled with candy, a few hundred of them.

    Now, we just do out baskets of goodies in the morning and then go to my mom's house for the kids to do the same egg hunt we did as kids.
