Tried Side-lying for Nighttime--plugged Duct?

I decided I am better off nursing side-lying at night because it's easier to fall back asleep afterwards (I was doing cross-cradle and football before for nighttime). The past few nights I'm feeling like my DD hasn't emptied my breast after she eats and even had some small plugs that I'm able to get out during the day. I'm wondering if gravity has made it less efficient to get milk out when in this position and that's why this is happening? The only other thing I can think of is that I started drinking Chamomile tea before bed and I heard that it's possible to get a supply boost from that. So not sure at this point which one it is.

Re: Tried Side-lying for Nighttime--plugged Duct?

  • it could be causing blocked ducts if you're leaning on that side throughout the night. i have definitely gotten the beginnings of blocked ducts from sleeping on my stomach.

how old is your LO? once my DS could hold his head up and was stronger, I would just pick him up and put him onto my boob perpendicular to me- then for the 2nd breast, he could just crawl across my body. you can also nurse with your LO in the crook of your arm, facing you. both of these worked well for me and involve lying on my back, so it was relatively easy to go to back to sleep.

  • Loading the player...
  • DD is 4.5 months. That is a really good idea about doing crook of the arm! I might try that next. So does sleeping on your side cause plugged ducts or decreased milk production? I was reading that sleeping on your stomach can decrease milk production (which I don't do).
