To all you STMs of little girls... Which diaper ointment worked best for you?? A girlfriend recvomended aquaphor but she has a little bit, so not sure if that matters? There's so many a+d, desitin, butt paste, etc. help!!
I hated butt paste. And wasn't impressed with Desitin. But DD has really sensitive skin, so the only thing that seemed to work well for her was Calendula cream and Arbonne cream.
Once we switched to Cloth Diapers, we couldn't use any cream on her unless we stuck her in a disposable, so we mostly just made sure to let her air out between changings as much as possible.
Just picked up some Coconut Oil, though, and plan to have that on hand as our rash cream. Everyone raves about it and it's CD safe.
Shorty hasn't ever really had a problem with diaper rashes. We used A&D ointment every time we changed her diaper around 6 months old. The transition from pure breast milk to purees and breast milk caused a few rashes. But now she doesn't have a problem. When she does get a little red, we use A&D ointment and it helps with just a few applications.
Does anyone know where to buy Waxelene in Canada? I've just heard of it over the the past couple of days and can only find it on one Canadian website for $12 a jar + $12 shipping. That's a bit much for me ...
I emailed the company to ask about Canadian stores with no response. All the stores they have listed as selling it in Canada don't actually seem to sell it in Canada (only the US stores do).
We're going to cloth diaper and Waxelene seems prefect for that, and highly recommended. *sigh*
Sorry if this is off topic, I'm just curious to try this product.
ETA: Just heard back from Waxelene, apparently it's available as "some" Bed, Bath & Beyond stores here, but since the closest one is 45 minutes away from me, and they might not even have it, I guess it's no Waxelene for me.
No diaper cream works the same for every baby or even every girl.
I'd start with plain petroleum jelly as a barrier when the skin is clear, then move up to something containing zinc oxide when a rash is present. In my experience, the higher the ZO concentration, the quicker the rash heals. For rash healing and prevention, double up. Slather on a thick layer of ZO and top it with petroleum jelly.

The B's (not sure of the spelling) Butt Paste is the best IMO... But you have to get the extra strength, the one that has 40% of the active ingredient. It's a little pricier, but we don't use it all that often and it works. This is really the only thing that worked for DD. She screams if she has a bad rash and I try to use Desitin.

Cocunt oil is great for protecting the your skin and helping to prevent rashes but if bad diaper rash hits you'll need actual diaper rash cream to fight it.
When DS was little he had a severe diaper rash that landed us in the ER (nonstop crying no matter what I tried to provide comfort) & the dr on call recommended to layer A&D with Desitin over top. I was so upset there was nothing 'stronger' that he recommended, but it worked within an application or 2. I just always remember A before D in the alphabet because there is truly something magical about the one over the other!
Re: STM w/ girls- diaper ointment??
I have desitin (target brand) for if she gets a rash, otherwise we use CJ's BUTTer.
