Stay at Home Moms

Disney Moms

We're going on a cruise Sunday and we'll be taking a 1 day excursion to The Magic Kingdom.   What should we do?  DD just turned 4 and DS will be 2 next month, they're both pretty tall and adventorous.  We don't want to waste the day standing in line for a few rides, we can do rides at a carnival or other amusement park.  They're both into Mickey's clubhouse.  DD does like the princesses, she's into Sophia, Rapunzel, and Frozen, but I've never seen her get excited for a character, so while I'd like to see a few princesses, it's probably not going to make DD's day.  SIL recommended a Disney Jr. 4-D show that sounds good.  Any other ideas?

We haven't been there yet, but we are going soon and my kids are about the same ages. I've done a lot of research, and the only Disney Jr. Show that I've heard of isn't at Magic Kingdom, it's at Hollywood Studios. And if you aren't going to stand in line for rides, and are skipping the characters, it seems like you are missing out on the point of Magic Kingdom! I'd go on the Disney World website and search for all of the attractions, (you can search by age, height requirements, etc) Ask your DD which things she wants to do. Maybe watch a parade or find some of the shows?

  • Fantasyland is amazing for kids and adults. There's an Ariel ride that I would highly recommend. Dumbo is a great choice too because there's no traditional line--instead, you get buzzers and wait in a play area. For food, try Be Our Guest for lunch. There is always a line for all food at Disney, but the building is gorgeous, a replica of the Beasts castle, and the food is good and not too expensive for Disney.

  • You will not find any clubhouse stuff or disney jr stuff at the MK.

You can go to the fairytale hall to see Rapunzel, Cinderella and maybe Ana & Elsa if they are over there already - I am not sure when they were moving to MK. They are in the 3pm parade, but you can't meet them, just see them for that. Another way to see princesses is to see if there are any last minute meal reservations at cinderella's castle. It's unlikely since it's last minute, but you never know.

Rides and Disney are not the same as carnival rides. Even the basic Dumbo ride is way better than a similar ride at a carnival.

I would probably go straight to Fantasyland and do stuff there, rides included. If they are adventurous and tall enough you might be able to ride Big Thunder Mountain in Frontierland.
Ana and Elsa are still at Epcot as of last Thursday. In less they are at both parks.

If you already have your tickets you can pre-set your fast-passes so your wait time in line is very minimal.

  • I think Ana and Elsa switch to Magic Kingdom this Sunday.

  • There's a 3D show called Mickey's philhamagic that features Disney characters but not Disney Junior.    It is a lot of fun.

In addition to Dumbo, I would try Peter Pan's Flight and Enchanted Tales with Belle.  Although those would be best if you got an afternoon Fastpass + for them.

Disneygeek77 why is an afternoon fast pass better?

OP The reservations are slim pickens for character meals for this coming week. Crystal Palace is also a nice character meal at MK.

  • The afternoon tends to have the heaviest crowds.  It there wasn't a limit on fastpasses, it wouldn't matter, but since there is a limit, I think the fastpasses would be better if used during the busiest times of the day.

OP, if possible, I would also get to MK before it opens.  Those early morning hours tend to be the least crowded.
