I suck at balance and that is part of why I'm going back to school in the fall. In the meantime I've been going to the gym and trying to read more. I'm also trying to make my H take on more baby duty. He does great with DS1, but DS2 is glued to me all day and all night and I just need a break. Tonight was a fairly rocky start...I tried to have DH put DS2 to bed and it was a huge fail. But I'm not going to cave. They can figure it out.
Every Friday night, my sister and I have girls night out. Just dinner and a trip to the mall and / or target, but that's all it takes for a good recharge for me.

I get up super early to work out/read/eat an uninterrupted meal/drink coffee. I have to have my me time.
I go hiking. Like, absolutely any block of free time that comes my way I am outside, rain or snow, going somewhere new. This is my one non-parenting thing that I do. I still have some childless friends and I realized when DS was about a year old that I was totally boring to talk to.
I exercise Mon-Sat mornings with a girlfriend. And I spend time on my hobbies: reading, knitting, and crochet. Oh, and book club once a month ~ which is pretty much like a girl's night out!
I pick one night a week (not always the same night, depends what's going on) and I don't do anything. No cleaning the house, no picking up DD's toys, no paying bills... I just leave everything and take time for myself. Sometimes I just stay home and read, sometimes I go out... but only "me" things. It is nice to be out of mommy/wife mode and just be selfish for a few hours.
I am so much more relaxed since I started doing this.

Do you bring DS with you? I used to like hiking... well, more walking on trails than hiking, but DD won't sit in a stroller for shit and I know if I put her in a carrier she would just pull my hair. I have high hopes of getting to go again when she's old enough to walk it (so only like 5 more years, nbd :P).
Thanks for posting this.. As I am reading everyone's response I am trying to think of what I do... Honestly nothing (maybe a dinner out with a friend every 2 months).. Maybe that is why I am so burnt out. Thanks for reminding me about me time. Can I ask how you fit it all in?

I'll take DS if it's short. Like less than three miles. He likes a wildlife refuge or something with lots of animals. Not so much into old growth forests. If I can take him in the stroller he'll sit, but he's too heavy to wear and he won't walk more than a half mile on his own yet.
My mom wants to see him once a week, so I can get a short hike in usually. And I have a standing arrangement with FIL once a month and once a month with DH for longer hikes.

A half mile is a long walk for a 2 year old! I'm impressed! I've seen too many Criminal Minds episodes to hike alone or I'd have DH watch her too. Have you started training for your non-technical mountain climbing yet? How's that going? For some reason, I thought you were pregnant but it's not in your signature so I must be thinking of someone else.
Uh, no I'm pregnant. I'll be hitting second tri when I do my climb.
I'm trying to get out there as much as I can, but my hiking partner hurt her knee, so we weren't able to do some of the long trek we had planned last week. I'm confident I can do it, but mostly just trying to be in the best shape possible before we get to mid-May.
I'll probably quit my regular hiking in August and just focus on small stuff to keep myself sane until November.
Take the long way home when I have a babysitter. Or "work late" meaning a dirty martini. Or two. Oh! my new thing: getting my eyebrows waxed at an actual place instead of a school. Worth it. Sooo worth it.
A few months ago I starting going to a woman's bible study and we are studying the book No More Perfect Moms. I'm surprised how much I enjoy it and I think I will do it again in the fall.
Other than that I would say goofing off on the internet or watching my favorite TV shows.

Aw I'd love it if my sis lived close enough for this...I hope in the next few years.
I totally meant to say this too. And we do this exact same thing whenever we visit one another. Target browsing with your sister is a heavenly activity.
