kid won't nurse :(

It's not that she refuses or doesn't want to but apparently it is now playtime at the boob. For days now whenever I try and nurse LO before I go to work or when I get home she thinks it's silly time. While it's adorable when she's smiling and talking to me, my supply is going to completely tank if she keeps this up. I can't pump enough at work and my school is not overly helpful in allowing me to pump (they want me to pump when I don't have students which makes sense but my planning is first thing in thebmorning, right after i've been with her...not to mention calling meetings right after school when I usually pump & not providing me coverage). I know that at 4 months they get easily distracted but all that's distracting her is ME! I can't take me out of nursing. So on top of engorged bobs because my ability to pump at school sucks, I can't get enough and she ends up taking a bottle at home too because I try and try and try, get fed uo, go to CrossFit and she finally decides she'S hungry. We FINALLY were getting the hang of nursing and now she does this! I don't know what, to do!

  • My little guy has been doing this pretty often too. Especially before work and when I get home. I find that if I just take him away from the boob for a few minutes he will usually realize how hungry he is and start eating normally.

  • My LO has been doing this for weeks, though sometimes it's because he gets upset while nursing and sometimes because he wants to smile and play. I find that it works to catch him right when he is waking up from a nap to nurse him so that he is sleepy.
  • Try a nursing cover, nursing necklace, or nursing in a dark, quiet room.

  • I'm having some trouble with this too.  At LO's last feeding before bed she's super distracted but I've found that bringing her to my room and laying her in my bed to nurse side-by-side makes her focus more.

  • Yep, that's a 4-month-old for you. It's super-frustrating, but this is a phase and it will pass. Second the idea of a nursing necklace or nursing in a dark/boring room. Also try to get lots of fun face time in with your LO when you're NOT nursing (but I assume you do that anyway ;)).

  • Third the nursing necklace idea. LO had been getting super distracted and DD1 running interference on her nursing sessions definitely isn't helping. But if I sequester us in a quiet room (no TV/radio) and give her my finger or wear a necklace for her to fiddle with while feeding, she does great. They're right at that age where everything is more interesting than eating!

  • Are your little ones eating in record time as well? Mine went from 40 min to less than 15 and cries and is constantly off and on again! I'm going to the lactation lady tomorrow :-/
