This makes me so sad :(

For those who don't want to click, a mom was arrested after leaving her two small children in the car while she went to an interview. She is homeless and had no one to watch her kids.

Thoughts? Opinions? Should she have been arrested? Should they drop the charges?

    It was purposeful. Not an accident. It's sad that she felt that was her only option but she does need to face consequences. It's not okay.

    I think it's sad. I'm sure she cares about her children and was trying to get a job so she could provide better for them. It sounds like she was desperate and made a bad decision. I wish she had contacted a shelter to see if they had resources to help her in this situation.

    Sad, but still illegal. She made a poor choice & got busted. She's really lucky that the kids didn't overheat & die.

    This is sad. However, if she is homeless and in a shelter, then most reputable nonprofits with women/family shelters offer childcare. So, either she wasnt in a shelter, which is no good if she is homeless with kids or the shelter is a piss poor one. Plus, she exercises poor judgement in putting her kids in danger.

    I know in FL there is a voucher program for child care assistance. You have to employed and below a certain income level.

    @Lelo2006‌ most foster care systems want to keep the family unit intact, so they won't take the kids unless the kids are at risk. If the homeless parent is in a shelter and meeting the basic needs for the kids, the foster system would see no reason to break up the family unit. The growing population of children in homeless shelters is why most shelters have responded by providing childcare for certain reasons, including jobs and interviews.

    The amount of homeless children is really sad, and I can't even image what it would be like if I couldn't provide shelter for B.
