Why is it that only boys get capes?! Target had this awesome onesie that was a girl Batman with a cape. I didn't get it because Lily was in the awkward size again. When I went back to get it, it was gone. >.<
I skimmed a couple of articles, but the main idea is that superheroes seem to increase in popularity around times of national crisis. The first superheroes showed up right around the Great Depression and World War II. The reemergence seems to coincide with 9/11, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the economic downturn.
Then again, maybe they're so popular because the movie industry decided to bring them back. Maybe it's both.
Can anyone tell I'm bored at work today? My first day in a long time without any meetings, and I'm procrastinating because I need to do a workflow. I hate workflows.
@winesconstantly I love this! Aiden also has an entire dress up chest and we have so many shirts with capes. Confession for which I would surely be killed if he knew - Aiden bought his dad Batman boxers for Christmas. They have a cape hanging off the ass.
Oh and here's a tip for when they're a little older. The Dollar Store near us always has inflatable swords, shields and "boppers" (those inflatable things you put over your hands). Hours of fun are had for $6

Thank you for this. I didn't mean harm or bad feelings by this question. I've noticed the cape is in right now and wasn't sure if I missed something.
@diana909 I don't think anyone really thought you had any bad intentions with your question. I certainly didn't. I think everyone got excited to show off their kids in capes. It was a fun topic.

Thank you! I didn't put 2 and 2 together when someone mentioned the superhero for boys and princesses for girls. Also, the other comment about superhero movies and things are super popular. I am a FTM and I never paid any mind to anything "children-ish" before I had Vinny. I was never a "kid" person so I lived in an adult "box". I happened to notice that kids had been wearing capes moreso than usual and was curious if there was any correlation of anything that I missed the "boat" on.
PS---the kids are super cute and fabulous in their little capes. Espcially@melohdy and her boys outfits that's what I call some DILF's right there. HAHA!!
Now I really need something with a cape for L, it is def a cuteness overload here. I am totally in love with superhero things, he has loads of superhero Jammie's and other things but None have capes. Anyone want to help a girl out a tell me where you bought them? I am in Canada though so that may make it tougher
@weddinginthecove - I haven't bought any capes recently, but my nephew is big into superheroes so it has definitely happened before. I've seen them at Walmart, Target. If you come up empty handed I'd maybe try The Bay or Sears

Superhero movies are big right now and have been for the past couple of years. I knew that, but I did a little googling because there is always some reason attributed to why these things become popular again. There's a whole slew of articles. I linked to two below. The second one is a 22 page paper that I did not read.
CNN Entertainment: Superheroes rise in tough times
Academia.edu: Effects of Superhero Media on Nationalistic Attitudes
