Question about Prevacid

My DS is 2 months old today. He has been on Prevacid (liquid compound form) for a while for his reflux. He was taking 2.5mL once a day. We gave it to him between 8:00 and 9:00 at night. This worked for a while and then seemed to lose its effectiveness. His doctor recently upped his dose to 2.5mL twice a day. We give him his morning dose between 7:00 and 8:00.

We have given him the extra dose for 2 or 3 days now. It seems like he has been spitting up more (especially during his morning feeds) lately. He spits up with every burp and then 2 or 3 times after he has finsihed eating. Could this extra dose be causing him to spit up more or is it that it might just take a few days for the extra dose to kick in?

His evening feeds and late night feeds seem to go good and he doesn't really spit up that much. I just need some reassurance that things will get better.

Re: Question about Prevacid

  • Our DS is on Zantac, but we found it to be more effective if we gave it to him about 15-20 minutes before he had a feeding. Easier said than done, especially at that age since they eat all the time.

It never hurts to ask your pedi.
