December 2012 Moms

Stitches =/

I was not having a good day to start off with and this just made it ten times worse! I was at my mom's house and LO bent down to pick something up and hit his head just right on the coffee table :( He split his eyebrow and needed 5 stitches, he was such a trooper though! He cried for like 2 minutes when it happened and then remember he had cheese in his hand and that made it temporarily all better. The worst part was when they had to do the shots to numb it, I don't know who cried harder me or him, most likely him :( It was absolutely heartbreaking and I want to cry just thinking about it :(  I'm just thankful he won't remember this and was back to himself once it was over.
Would you recommend Tylenol or Motrin/Advil if it bothers him? I'm thinking he should be fine without but just in case.

Re: Stitches =/

  • Behold the power of cheese & mommy hugs! Did something like that when I was 1ish (at Granfma's .. on foot of dining room table though). My mom always lamented that she didn't bring me in for stiches because I was one of those kids who'd pick at the scab (was really self concious as a child/teen about the scar. Has faded a lot though after finally growing out bangs). No, he won't remember.

    Don't know which would be better med wise. Is more willing to take one vs. the other? You did a god job being a strong mamma for him.

  • Ouch! Poor LO! I would be an absolute trainwreck if DS had to get stitches. On the flipside, SS12 ended up in the ER Wednesday (on his birthday!) to get stitches and I had no sympathy. He admitted to me he's been getting in trouble at school for taking apart his pens and pencils and using the bits and pieces for evil so when he was supposed to be doing homework and instead took apart a wooden pencil and sliced his finger on the exposed metal tip I just told him he knew better and next time no stitches, just superglue.

  • I use Motrin/Advil when I want longer lasting pain relief for Morgan.  It seems to work better than Tylenol.

    Not sure when you posted this but hope he's better!

  • It's like it never even happened! He didn't need any pain relief and he's not playing with the band aid or anything, which I thought he would for sure especially since it's so close to his eye. The one the doctor had put on fell off because it got stuck to hippo (his best 'friend') so now they both have band aids, it's kind of cute.
