Welp.. 5 follicles now, IUI #3 cancelled :(

So I had my last u/s this morning.. my 4 follicles turned into 5. I think my sizes are around 19-21mm (4) and 1 at 18mm now. My RE said he won't do an IUI w/ that many. I triggered this morning right after the appt. So we have the option of natural intercourse if we want to risk it. My husband wants to, I'm on the fence now (even though we did BD last night). We are MFI so I'm leaning toward why not.. we tried for a year and never had a positive on our own. DANG IT!!! We were supposed to be moving on to IVF next but now my husband says no, he wants to do all three IUIs. Ugh. I was so excited this cycle too... I felt like we really had a chance.

If I were in your situation and we have MFI, I'd do it. Nothing is guaranteed and you only need one little swimmer to get up there and get things done.

That is a really tough (but personal) decision you and your DH will have to make...how many follicles did you have in your previous iui cycles? Since you had a bfp from an iui I would definitely agree with your DH that you should do all 3 (I might even do a few more) before moving on to the MUCH pricier and more invasive IVF, especially if paying OOP. I'm sorry that's a tough decision. My problem is egg quality and I just triggered with 5 mature but my RE was fine with that. I'm not going to lie it was scary. If it were me I'd probably try, but my situation is different. What ever you decide Good luck.

My first IUI we had 1, the second we had 2 at maybe 19-20mm. It's easier for me to want to move to IVF bc we are very lucky and have insurance to cover it. I'm just so emotionally drained of all of this.

Yes, this is a tough decision. I would probably go for it and see what happens. My nurse told me that if you end up conceiving more than two embryos, they'll usually terminate the smallest embryo(s) to reduce major health issues. I told my sister about this option and she freaked out because she thinks that is like abortion. The option the nurse told me about actually gave me comfort that my babies wouldn't have too many multiples health issues. The ultimate decision will be what you are most comfortable with. I'm sorry you had to cancel. I was so disappointed when we had to cancel because of over responding. I can't offer any advice on whether or not to proceed with TI. I can certainly understand why you would want to though.

Do it. I would. Especially if you have MFI. You've went through all of this, just have sex. This could be your month, don't waste it!

@mommalawyer I think we are.. my husband said we are going "bang away" haha. I think I would totally regret not trying just because we are MFI & it seems his SA keeps coming back worse each time. I know he is on the Fertility Blend for like 6 weeks.. but I think you mentioned your DH's numbers went down even. So I'm less hopeful on them now.

I would probably go for it. Mostly because of the MFI. But, that said, it's such a personal decision...and I'm so sorry that you're even dealing with making this decision. My fingers are crossed for you!

I just had my first cycle cancelled and it sucks. We had 4 follicles and decided not to proceed on our own, if we had MFI we probably would have but since our diagnosis is unexplained we decided against it. Best of luck to you.

Yeah. My DH numbers went down when it came to the actual IUI. Why? I have no clue. I was choking back tears as I lay on the table doing the IUI. With MFI the little suckers have a harder time making it up the vaginal cavity, into the cervix, through the ute, and down to meet the egg. Even when being dumped off at the end of the fallopian tubes, they can struggle. There is always a risk of multiples. I think your risk is less with the MFI and TC. Obviously you have to do what is comfortable for you, regardless of any advice from us.

My RE explained the multiple follies for IUI as just giving us the chance to try many months together at once. After no pregnancy through TI since 1/2013, it's hard to think you'd suddenly have greater than 50% fertilization rate this month with TI, especially if the SAs are going down.

That said, I can't even begin to imagine what we would choose in that situation. I do hope none of us will have to be in a situation where we're choosing between selective reduction and the awful risks of HOM. But wasting a medicated cycle, after all you've been through, sounds so painful.
