"Milk Neck" Rash

Hi there, I know you ladies have a lot of experience with rashes and skin issues and I'm hoping you can help us out. LO has a deep neck roll and recently developed a rash. She will not let us get to the crease while she's awake so the only time I can see/clean it thoroughly is when she is sleeping! Anyway, I noticed a bright red rash 2 days ago and it does not seem to be getting any better. I am being very diligent about keeping it clean and dry and I've applied CJs to it in hopes of calming it down and I'm not seeing an improvement. Any suggestions on how to clear this up?

  • I just got some waxalene to try to help my nieces rash like this but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. When my daughter had it we made sure to wash it out with soap in the tub and put monkey balm on it and that helped.

  • My little one had this in an arm crease. There was no way to air it out, I kept it clean and put dr. Browns diaper ointment on it.. Took a good week and half to start looking better because of lack of air flow. But it did get better. I would also put a little baby powder (corn starch) on it to dry it out some. Put the powder on your finger, and rub it on her neck after she eats. Just to help keep it dry.

  • I wouldn't use corn starch in case of yeast.

  • Yes, we are still dealing with neck rolls at 9 months!

Once they get neck control tummy time is a great way to air it out. We've used CJs and cetaphil with good results. And I'm sure waxelene would work well as well.

We make it a priority to wash the neck rolls and dry them well during bath time. Our guys were so bad that it required a daily bath to get to them and keep them clean. I know that you don't have to necessarily bathe your baby daily... But it was the only way for us to truly clean his neck / pits!

  • I bought the cetaphil dry wipes for this. I don't have to fight him twice.

I've never heard of these. Enlighten me please! Dry like a tissue with some ointment on it?

  • Its actually marketed as a makeup remover. I compared it to the regular wash. It didn't add any ingredients. They actually have a teeny bit of moisture but aren't wet like a diaper wipe.

  • I've been using coconut oil on DS2's neck rolls when they get red. It seems to help.
