Great, As I was putting DS in his car seat in our driveway this morning I noticed two cop cars down the street. I chalked it up to a little domestic dispute. 30 minutes later my H calls me (he is home today b/c he is sick and is going to the doctor at 11am) and he says the police just came to our door and informed us there has been a bunch of break in's in our neighborhood. Great. We just moved and our garage is full of stuff that we still have to sort through and put away in the house. Including a few totes of alcohol that we haven't put away yet and at least four or five guns we haven't put in the gun safe in the house (no idea why yet, DH was supposed to do that weeks ago).
So they walked around the house and found out one of our privacy gates was busted but both garage doors were still locked and not damaged. DH has been sleeping on the couch the last four nights because he is sick and he's had the TV on all night. The cops think that might have kept them out if they say the glow from TV on thinking someone was up.
We have motion lights on the front and back of the house but haven't had them on. So now DH and our friend (who is living with us right now as he just got back from deployment overseas) are putting everything of value in the house and cleaning half the garage so I can get my car in at night. They are also fixing the privacy gate and are having his buddy who makes signs make us some fake home security signs and they are checking out the motion lights so that they are functioning. He also said he is thinking about installing a dead bolt on the two garage doors.
God forbid they enter our house though while we are home. All three of us have our permit to carry and have concealed hand guns plus a decent amount of other fire power....before this turns into a flame...the guns are locked in the gun safe in our master bedroom closet except for our carry guns which are kept in combination safes in our nightstand and another in our hutch in the dining room. All our ammo is in another smaller safe in our guest bedroom closet. Except for a few full magazines hidden out of reach/site of any little kiddos for quick access if the situation presents.
We go shooting almost every weekend and are all excellent shots. With that said, I really truly hope I never have to use my gun in this situation. And just like my H was raised we hope to raise our son to respect guns and to know how to safely use them. But we also plan to keep them out of his reach until he is an adult and truly understands the responsibility they bring.
Sorry, I didn't mean for that to get so long. I hope they catch the f*ckers!
