Moms of short-nappers

How many of you out there still have LOs who are stuck in one-cycle nap land?  We had about a week where things were better if I put her in the swing, but we are definitely back to 37-minute naps, whether she is in the crib or the swing.

If so, do you try to extend the nap for an extra cycle with jiggling, patting, or some other form of soothing?

For those whose kids did this before but got better, when did things get better for your LO?

Re: Moms of short-nappers

  • L does 4 or 5, 30-45minute naps throughout the day. It makes it really difficult to get anything done most days. Sometimes when she wakes up if I go in a put her paci back in her mouth she will fall back asleep, but only for another 10 minutes or so. Unfortunately if I want to get an hour or longer, I have to lay with her in my bed. Though, she sleeps just fine at night.

  • We average 3 or 4 30 minute naps during the day in the crib. If I cosleep with her in our bed we get 2, 2 hour naps. We had a week where she did the 2 for 2 on her own but it was short lived. She is happy when she wakes up and sleeps about 12 hours at night uninterrupted, so im not worried....but yeah I REALLy wish she would take longer naps so I could get more accomplished. PITA

@tgrimes1980 I'm sure they will but when, I wouldn't venture to guess.

Some days he does take only 2 naps, but only if they are both around 2 hours. Most days we're at 4, 45 minute to an hour naps. He's 5.5 months.

  • I just follow his cues.  I am honestly working more on night time sleep and just make sure I put him down when he is tired during the day.  His naps range from 15 minuets to an 1 1/2 hours.  During the day, when he wakes there is no putting him back down.

  • Greyson has been doing short naps lately because he wakes up the second I put him down. It's been exhausting.

  • My LO generally sleeps in her crib 30 to 50mins 3 to 4 times a day. In the afternoon if we are both tired I will let her sleep on me for 2.5 hours. I was talking to my MIL about my older nephew b/c she used to watch him 3 days a week. She said he used to take 3 or 4 short naps per day, but eventually consolidated them into 1 to 2 longer naps. There is hope that it will get better, I just don't know when!

I can get a 30 min nap on me, 45-60min if she's in the jogging stroller (yes, I have to run for an hour to get an hour nap!), she's a mix of waking up still tired or wide awake.
L also wakes as soon as the car or the stroller stops.
Nighttime, she stays up really late and wakes so many times I can't count, she seems to have reverse cycled eating, even though I SAH m-f...
I fantasize about her going to sleep without a full circus production and staying asleep long enough for me to sleep 5-6 hours in one stretch...
Newest issue is she rolls onto her belly, it wakes her up and she's mad about it. :(

This is us too. She takes about three 25 min naps per day. We put her to bed at 7pm, but she wakes several times during the night. Most recently every 45 mins. We always put her down drowsy etc. each time she wakes and wants to eat she'll eat 4-5oz. What are we doing wrong?! Sleep would be really nice. At least she's happy most all of the time.
  • ODS started napping better around 7-8 months.  We are on the 30 or so min nap cycle with DS right now.  It will get better. It is frustrating when I'm trying to get stuff done though.

  • Lucky to get 3 30 minute naps here too! He wakes multiple times a night, though I have successfully got him in his crib for the first stretch, which is usually an hour or two. Then we bed share.

I did notice today he woke his usual 30 minutes into the nap. I heard him and he was just babbling, so I left him be and kept doing my thing. About 10 minutes later I realized he was quiet. He had fallen back asleep! I'm sure it will never replicate, but still!

Exactly this. Mine takes about 4, 30min naps. Goes down for the night in his crib around 7:30 then wakes every hour (not last night though :D) until 11-12am which is when I nurse him again and then for some unknown reason won't stay asleep in his crib from then on , even if I put him down having fallen asleep nursing. So at the point I bring him into bed with me and he sleeps pretty well , except for 2-3 more wake ups for boob time.
  • My LO definitely has a 30 minute sleep cycle, but usually will take one longer nap per day on his own. If he hasn't done this by the third nap, I will rock him back to sleep to get him to take that longer one, and that usually works.

However, I thought we were in the clear because we never really hit the 4MW and he will be 5 months on Tuesday. The last two nights he has woken up 4-5x a night after previously waking up only once or not at all. Perhaps we are hitting it late? Ugh.
