Easter (bunny) traditions?

I'm curious as to what everyone does for Easter, as in Easter bunny stuff. When we were little my parents left our Easter basket and goodies next to our back door (we had a dog door in the door and they said the bunny would come through the dog door).

Last year I just put everything on our kitchen table.

What does everyone do? Do you do anything fancy like leave carrots or cookies for the bunny or rabbit prints on the floor? I'm thinking whatever we decide to start now, we're going to have to keep it up each year.

Also do you just put stuff in the Easter basket or is your LO also getting bigger gifts? We got Ava a water table and one of the B Toys remote control cars, as well as stuff for her basket.

  • Our basket was always hidden although this year it'll probably just be in front of the fireplace. We just do basket stuff but one tradition I will continue from my childhood is a new book in the basket. So I got her a book, a stuffed Minnie, some play jewlery and a little Minnie figurine that you snap different clothes on and off. Nothing big.

  • They will get some treats in their baskets. I plan on doing fruit snacks, granola bars, pouches, and a few candy items. They will get a small toy or two as well. They are also getting an outdoor playhouse. That will be put together in the backyard. Their baskets will be on the TV stand. We don't leave anything out for the bunny.

In years past I went way overboard. I'm scaling it back this year before they start to expect a second Christmas.

  • Growing up, my parents would hide our chocolate bunny outside. They'd write our names on it, so if we found a chocolate belonging to another sibling, we'd keep quiet and keep looking for ours. I assume they hid it in easy places when we were really young, but once we got older, it would take us hours to find it some years. We only got a chocolate bunny, and that was fine.

This year, since Tumaini isn't eating chocolate or candy yet (she doesn't like it yet, weird kid...), she gets the B Toy sand truck, which comes with some sand toys. We'll probably just place it near the door, with a little bow, so that it's ready to be taken to the park to play.

  • My mom always went all out with Easter baskets - candy, toys, books, Barbies, etc - and hid them elaborately in the house. It was a lot of fun. I'll probably get more creative once DS is old enough to understand; this year, I got him a beach bucket with some toys that he's already seen because he was with me when I bought them, lol.

I think my family had the weirdest tradition: we'd go to my grandfather's house, and at some point he'd sneak out of the house.  Then he'd leave baskets on the porch, ring the doorbell and run like hell.  Ding-dong-ditch meets Cadbury.

In our house today, we don't really celebrate Easter.  This year we'll let Lillian "plant" some jelly beans in the yard the night before, and when she's asleep we'll replace the beans with lollipops. We might do an egg hunt in the backyard.

I love this idea so much- the planting of the jelly beans! Totally going to do this!!
