Stay at Home Moms

Back to our "new" normal

After 12 weeks of being off of work due to Reese's diagnosis and hospitalization--I go back to work next week. I am SOOOO excited. I am a teacher, so usually I don't mind being home in the summer, but because of her compromised immune system we spent about 80% of the days in the hospital or under doctor ordered house arrest at home. Not exactly fun. Actually Reese LOVES Wednesdays which is her weekly doctors appointment because she gets out of the house and to socialize with other kids.

We are still waiting for her immunity numbers to get higher to start the next round of chemo. Our oncologist told us that the numbers are high enough to go out in public and be with other kids, just not to start chemo yet.

When I go back, she will be on her modified routine--Monday and Tuesdays back to the in home babysitter. The doctors fully endorsed this because her DCP is absolutely amazing and actually arranged that on Monday and Tuesday it will only be her and her best friend there. (The other family moved during everything that was going on, and the other one was part time--so they will be at the end of the week). Wednesday DH will be off to take her to her chemo treatments and Thursday and Friday my MIL/BIL will watch her so she can just rest and be low key those days--incase there are any lingering chemo effects. Lost of tv/attention/rest those days.

We just have to make it through 8 weeks of me working until the summer--school gets out June 25th.

I am VERY excited about having a normal routine back, even if it is the "new" normal.

I am just so excited about getting out of the house with a purpose. Even trips to the store were few and far between because I had to have someone watch Reese and DH has been making up hours so he has been coming home later and by then I was exhausted to go.

She is THRILLED about going back---the other girl is one of her best friends who she talks about ALL the time. She is sad that the "boys" moved--but her DCP said that when she gets back, they will try to call them on the phone so she can talk to them. I actually told the DCP that she will have it easy because the two girls will just play together all day and she could relax. Before she was diagnosed they were the Bobbsey Twins--they had to be next to each other at all times.
