Baby Names

would it be terrible.....

DD is Miriam. We're thinking about baby #2 and would like to stay with a biblical name. We were team green for DD and were planning on using Moses as our boy choice. Would it be terrible to have a sib set of Miriam and Moses if we have a boy next since they truly were a sib set in the bible? Would you have even thought of that if I had not brought it up? Be honest.

I wouldn't have known they were a sibset in the Bible. However, I really dislike siblings starting with the same letter. So cheesy.

  • Aaron would be another choice.

  • I am unfamiliar with the sibling association.

As far as I'm concerned, two siblings with the same initial is a coincidence; three or more is a theme.

    I like Moses very much!

  • I think it is a little too much for me...too biblical, too close in the bible, too much 'M'...I wouldn't do it personally.

Exactly what I was thinking. Miriam's other brother was Aaron. People that know the story will know the sibset. Aaron would be perfect with Miriam.

  • I'm religious, and I do read the bible often, So for me it would be a little funny to here of a Miriam and Moses that are siblings....kinda like naming two of your sons Bert and Ernie

I think that Miriam and Moses or Miriam and Aaron would be okay since they were siblings and Miriam isn't as well known. It would be strange if they were a romantic couple:

Jacob & Rachel (or Leah, for that matter)

    Abraham and Sarah

    Samson and Delilah

    Adam and Eve (ha!)

  • Moses>Aaron. I LOVE Moses & especially paired with Miriam. That's awesome!

  • Prepare yourself to be asked a million times when you are going to have an Aaron.  :)  If you aren't in the mood for that -- don't do Moses with Miriam.

  • Considering it's Passover right now, I immediately went to the Old Testament story. I agree that Aaron would be better.

I have never read the bible personally, so I didn't know they were siblings.

However, I am as far away from religious as possible, and even I know that Moses is kind of a big deal in the bible.  So to me, it just seems like a huge name with a ton of religious connotations that you would be saddling on your kid.

There are tons of awesome biblical names.  Choose one of those.

  • It would be great!
  • It wouldn't be terrible. But I think if you are questioning it you might be a little uncomfortable with it? Love the name Miriam though and there are tons of great Biblical options for boys.
  • I thought of it immediately. But I think it's adorable. I usually don't like matching letters for sibsets either, but this is an exception I would be willing to make. :)

  • It honestly didn't ring a bell with me until you brought it up. If you love the name, I say go for it! Definitely would have been a little weirder to have used the Samson/Delilah, Adam/Eve, etc sets.

I love Moses. It is kind of overly matchy to me though (both because of same initials and because of the biblical characters).

  • I feel like that is a big responsibility to put on a child. If pick a biblical name that was a bit lighter to carry through life.
