Dumb question du jour (bath products)

Do baby bath products (body wash, shampoo, lotion) ever go bad? We got so much of it as shower gifts/it was on sale/etc that I think this kid is set until she goes to kindergarten.

How long would you let it sit around before you chuck it?

  • No, none of those things goes bad.

  • Well, if you're anything like my mom and keep things like half-empty bottles of Avon body lotion circa 1994...yes, they will eventually go bad. But you're better than that.

  • I tend go by look and smell. If the colour has changed or the smell is off, then I don't use it. Otherwise, all good. If you hold on to things long enough, they'll turn eventually but they usually keep a really long time.

They expire after opening. There is a little open container symbol on the bottom of the rear label that has a number like 6m 12m or 24m. That tells you how many months it's good after opening.
Those dates aren't about safety. They're about best smell and effectiveness. 10-year-old soap might not work well or smell good, but it will almost never be dangerous or even irritating.

  • I just today purchased my first bottle of baby shampoo/body wash in 4 years. Just ran out, as it was a very popular shower gift.
