I've been taking LO to a pediatric chiropractor as many friends swear by it. Haven't seen anythign miraculous though he is a little less cranky these days, though it's hard to play on the floor when he's spitting/throwing up. Today she suggested we drop the Zantac he's on and try a supplement from Good Earth that should help reduce his reflux. I feel like he's starting to grow out of the Zantac but still shows no sign of AR improvement. Anyone tried the supplement they have?
If not, if your LO took Prevacid, how long before it worked? If we switch our pediatrician says there has to be a lapse between the Zantac and Prev. I worry about it getting any worse without medicine...that his his ability to sleep and my sanity.
Re: Acid Reflux Mommies
Second, there is very little actual scientific evidence of holistic or homeopathic treatments having meaningful effects. (ETA: a recent study actually shows proof that homeopathy is totally useless)
I suggest finding out exactly what is supposedly in these supplements and looking for studies from the NIH, medical journals, etc. (Google Scholar is a great place to start) and see if there's any real evidence to back this up. Then decide if you're willing to risk an unregulated supplement.
Many antacids don't actually reduce the volume/frequency of the spitup, just the pain. As long as your LO is growing and meeting milestones, you probably don't need to worry.
Personally, I think it would be silly to listen to a chiropractor about your babies AR. The ped knows best about this.
But since LO is gaining weight adequately and meeting milestones, we aren't treating.
LO is a massive spitter too. Don't let it limit you. Burp rags/ blankets in the floor help. We also travel with many bibs ( put them right over the straps of the carseat) and a few outfit changes.
Eta: I would also not use the supplements. We saw improve ts within 24 hrs once we got N's dose right. Be patient!
as for the "happy easy baby", I disagree. dispite all of her issues, DD is a very happy little lady. she's figuring out her world and we're working on a routine so each day is getting easier. although some days are more challenging than others, I wouldn't trade it for anything.
