Polyhydramnios/ high levels of amniotic fluid

Polyhydramnios/high levels of amniotic fluid, anyone else have it/had it? I'm having an ultrasound on Monday to confirm the diagnosis, I don't have gestational diabetes, so they're not sure what would be causing it. But my doctor hasn't been super helpful in terms of truly explaining what it means or what the possible dangers are.

A coworker was diagnosed with it at 20 weeks. They didn't know what caused hers, either. She had weekly u/s through the rest of the pregnancy and tried to go into early labor twice. I think the first time was at 28 week and the second was 32 weeks. She eventually had some of the extra fluid taken off, and was fine after that. She delivered last week (healthy baby girl) at 38-39 weeks.

  • Like PP said the main thing has been closer monitoring. I passed my GD test also but I've been put on a low carb/low sugar diet anyway. Doc says there is a correlation between that and fluid levels sometimes.
  • Thanks all, that's helping me feel a lot calmer
  • I am in the exact same boat, and was also told they don't typically know what causes this in people. I have anxiety and naturally, was worried as well.

I am also having a U/S and NST test once a week now. I had my second check today and baby girl passed all tests with flying colors and they said she did "perfect" so I feel much better now. I also do not have GD. But I am 4' 11" and a doctor had suggested my height possibly having something to do with it. Baby is measuring ahead and they think she has a "big head" or will be a "big baby" but their measurements (which they admitted) can be off by up to 2lbs!

So no worries, I am sure we are fine, and our babies are A-OK! :)
