Breastfeeding

Introducing bottle...

Need expert advice...going to intro the bottle in a few days, I start a slow transition back to work in less then three weeks, should I use my freezer stick and then freeze the fresh milk or feed the fresh in a bottle and just keep the freezer stock as is? (I have an extra pump session for back stock).

Also, how do I know how many ounces, roughly, to give at a feed? Hate to waste any she doesn't eat...
Thanks for the help FTM and three weeks in!

Re: Introducing bottle...

  • How many weeks old is LO? I'm assuming 4-8. Baby typically drinks 1 oz per week old up to 6 oz. Either way, I'd start with 2 oz. I pumped for out first bottle. I think I pumped 4 oz and put 2 in the bottle. She drank about 1 oz. The second time I did the same thing and she drank 2 then the other 2.

Remover every she drinks oz out of a bottle, you need to pump at least the same amout to tell you body baby needs it. That's why I say just pump it then. Plus it will be warm for whomever is giving her the bottle. Ideally someone else will give it to her not in your typical nursing spot.

My mom face her the first bottle and I stayed in the room, some people say not to, but it wasn't a problem. I also tecconend having whoever will feed her read "how to bottle feed a breast fed baby" on kellymom.com

Good luck, and seriously, don't stress!!

  • Just saw that she is three weeks, she likely drinks 3oz per feeding. She may do more or less from a bottle but probably close to that.

  • Thanks ya'll!
