Ovidrel vs. Pregnyl

I hope I'm not being redundant in asking this question... If I am, please link me to the right thread and I can take this down.

Is there a significant difference between Ovidrel and Pregnyl? I know Ovidrel is shot in the stomach, and Pregnyl goes in the upper thigh. One is 250 MCG and the other is 10,000 IU HCG. The price difference is certainly significant. Damned Ovidrel cost me $134 Pregnyl cost me $80 in the past.

Anyway, my doctor ordered my medicine for me and I got Follistim and Ovidrel. I don't understand why she prescribed me with Ovidrel because she's used Pregnyl on me in the past. Anyone know if it works better with Follistim or something?

Of course, I'll ask these questions at my next RE appointment but that won't be for a while. Just curious to see if others have any ideas.

Not sure, when they ordered my meds this last time they put down Pregnyl but made a note on the order whatever what cheaper so I got novarel. I just assumed they were all the same thing just diff brands.

I have always used Pregnyl because it is the only one covered by my insurance. I have used Pregnyl and follistim several times. I'm not sure why they would switch you to a more expensive trigger. I was under the impression that they all worked the same. I only did a 5000u trigger so Pregnyl lasted me 2 cycles.

Bah

I suspected as much. Next time - God forbid there will even BE a next time, anyway - I will be sure to ask for Pregnyl instead of Ovidrel. I'd used Ovidrel before and it was ~$125 last time. I want to have as few expenses as possible for this TTC business.

My RE said he was giving me pregnyl instead of ovidrel because it was a "weight" thing... I didn't ask anymore but assumed it was because I was overweight... But I was still instructed to put the pregnyl in my stomach.

I'm wondering if they can be used either IM or SQ. This time when I got my rx of novarel it came with 3 needles, mixing needle, IM, and SQ. They instructed me to inject in my stomach.

So I googled the difference on Ovidrel and novarel and came across a post in July of last year on 3t with curlylocks and talon and they were saying the studies show there is no difference if it's IM, or SQ.

I did Follistim and Pregnyl this cycle. They didn't say anything about why. I got 5000iu trigger and a 5000iu booster, both in my butt.

I have only used pregnyl and it costs about $75. The first 2 months, I took the pregnyl SQ in my stomach. I got a huge, angry welt both times. My RE switched me to taking the pregnyl IM in my butt cheek. I have not had any bad reactions since the switch.

I have always given my pregnyl IM, my RE said the absorption is better. I'm not sure about it being better if you are overweight but I know the dose I take is 5,000 because my weight is less than 120lbs.

I have only used Orvidrel and each time has cost about $80. The first time I got it at the pharmacy next to my REs office and this time I got it with my other meds from Conception Pharmacy and it was $79.50, each time they said it was going to cost more if I used my insurance versus being cash pay because they could use a manufacturers coupon. I would look around at different pharmacies for prices and coupons.

Also I think I heard once you might be able to get a coupon from online for the Orvidrel.

I only had to take 1/4 of the dose this time. I asked why so little they said because I have so many follicles and it helps reduce the OHSS but it's still just as effective and I was told to just put it in my stomach.

It's funny how all RE's have different protocols. Then again it could always depend on the patient too.
