Help! Diaper cream ruined my cloth diapers

We use bum genius 4.0 snap diapers. We couldn't figure out why all of a sudden they started to leak terribly, even after just one pee. Then I took a clean one and splashed some water on it. It beaded up and just rolled off. I pointed this out to MIL/Nanny because she had been complaining about the leaking too and she said 'Oh, because of the diaper cream maybe?'. She had been coating him all over in diaper rash cream and not using a liner. :-| So now the diapers are totally water repellent.

We tried scrubbing them by hand with Dawn and then running them through a rinse cycle in the washing machine, no luck, they still repel the water.

Anyone have any other suggestions for how to salvage them? There's 25 of them and they cost about $17 each. I'll weep if I have to buy all new ones.

    My suggestion is just to ask the CD board (which you did) because those ladies know so much. I hope that you can fix them, they are pricey diapers!

    Oh that sucks so bad. I would be sooo upset! What cream was she using? I have all of my non CD safe creams labeled with red sharpie "DO NOT USE WITH CLOTH DIAPERS" so there's no mistaking what should and should not be used.

    Maybe take a toothbrush and some dwan to them? Or soak them in dawn? The CD board ladies usually come up with good suggestions. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this!!

    She had been using the honest co. healing balm and I think that was actually ok, I think it was the domeboro that did it.

    You need to scrub the diapers with blue dawn then wash 4x in hot rinses
