Trouble TTC

Pity Party of One (N3TR) Anyone wanna join me?

I have had a killer sore throat the last two days. I went to the doctor today and the Dx was strep. I've never had it before, but DAMN. I end up in tears if I start coughing and swallowing is so painful, I clench my jaw and fists every time. So, I'm definitely having a pity party about this. And, yes, I've gargled with warm salt water, took tylenol and ibuprofen (neither of which has brought the pain down in the slightest, even at 1000mg and 800mg respectively), and tried using throat numbing spray (tasted fantastic - note sarcasm - and did nothing). So, I'm SOL.

Who's joining me on the bandwagon of misery?

  • I feel for you. I had strep once in my life and I seriously thought I was going to die. My dr gave me a rx of some numbing stuff it didn't work. I took 3-4 ibuprofen every 2-3 hours so I could try to swallow, that's about all that helped.

    Hope you feel better soon.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • I'm stupidly susceptible to strep and any upper respiratory infection, really.  I've had strep a few times, and it always knocks me flat on my ass.  Sounds weird, but Hawaiian punch always helps me.  Yes, the bright red fruity drink.  It's good stuff.

I'm assuming they've got you on antibiotics right now.  Really, that's the only thing that will help.  That and moving as absolutely little as possible.  Don't swallow if you don't want to.  Sometimes I'd rather spit than feel the pain.

Good news is, it'll go away very quickly.  You'll feel 50% better after the first day, 75% better the next, 85% better the day after, then 100% on day 4.  But KEEP TAKING THE MEDICINE.  Do NOT stop.  You gotta kill all the bugs, or else it'll come back even worse.

Hope you get to feeling better soon!

  • Yuck - strep is the worst!  I'd also recommend trying a neti pot if you're willing to do that - some people get freaked out about it, but I swear by it when I get sore throats/colds.

Hope you get to feeling better!

HAHA! I was like this when I got a double ear infection once. It was so bad, I lost almost all of my ability to hear out of both ears. It went on for several weeks (I had to be put on antibiotics and steroids) and I broke down crying to my mom "I'm never going to hear again!" She laughed because I was being ridiculous, and I laugh thinking about it, but I was totally serious in the moment. :P

  • Ouch, I hope that you feel better soon!  Strep sucks.

I had really bad abdominal pain for a few hours yesterday.  It was kind of scary, but it went away after a lot of tea and a little Tylenol.  I think that it was just digestive fun due to dehydration and the Crinone.
