Advice on dropping last bfing session please :)

LO has been nursing only at night for 2.5 weeks now. (She is 13.5 months and I needed to wean for IF treatment)

Last night DH got out of work early and was able to meet me at a friends house for dinner. He took DD home to get her ready for bed and since she was so tired I asked him to try and put her to bed before I was going to get home. She had her cup of milk and he got her to bed

It's now been 36 hours since she nursed and my boobs are doing surprisingly well. So my question is, do we go to every other night, or just cold turkey and call it done? Thank you ladies!

I think you can stop cold turkey now, esp if you've been down to just 1 session for a while. I stopped cold turkey - after we were down to just the morning session for a month. No problems at all with me.

@pb_bride thank you! I think emotionally *I* want to do EOD lol! I think it might confuse A at night though, so I think you are right about cold turkey

I'm nervous about getting mastitis. I had it twice early on and it was horrible! Do you think taking sudafed would help or hurt?

I quit cold turkey too. But I also had a stomach virus so my supply was down. She did ask randomly 3 times over the next month and I let her. But she either didn't get anything or decided it wasn't really what she wanted.
GL. Congrats on making it to 13.5 months. And I hope it's a smooth transition for you.

I would also think cold turkey is the way to go. I dropped to pumping only first but then dried up on my own (I was surprisingly sad)..... Sounds like you don't have much left so hopefully the process will be painless for you! Nice work on getting this far

Yep we went cold turkey right around that age too. We gave him a sippy of warm milk instead. At 2 1/2 he still likes his straw cup of warm milk in the morning and night.

We also dropped the morning session cold turkey. I took 6 weeks to wean the boys and could tell they were getting very little anyway (they'd pull off super fast and down a bottle). I found that I was in tons of pain when I dropped my first two sessions, but had absolutely no pain after being completely done. But, I stopped when I was having my period, so my supply was super low anyway.

I just stopped a week and a half ago, also for IF treatments. Since you're down to one and she didn't need it that night, I would do cold turkey. We were down to one (not by their choice but because I had to wean for my FET). It was first thing in the morning. The first day I got up and got ready for work before they got up so I wasn't there to nurse them. That night I put together tricycles for them (they have been obsessed with bikes). The next morning when they asked, I told them the milk was all gone but that the milk left them a special goodbye present downstairs. It's been hard. They still ask and sometimes get very sad that they can't have milk. It makes me feel awful because I really wanted them to wean on their own terms. I just remind them that the milk is all gone and the milk brought them big boy bikes to play with before the milk left.

I just stopped cold turkey when I dropped the last session with DS. I used cabbage leaves in my bra to help when i was uncomfortable.

kmc84, I know what you mean. I felt really sad for the first week after I stopped, a bit less so the 2nd week. A month later, BFing felt like eons ago and I no longer miss it nor feel sad. M didn't even notice; I'd say majority of the time, weaning is much harder (emotionally) on the mom than on the child. GL with your decision, and congrats again for making it this long!

Also, I tried cabbage leaves, sage tea, and peppermint but I still ended up with two painful lumps in one breast. I was afraid of mastitis, too, so I did take a decongestant to help dry the milk up at that point. A friend that is studying to be an LC told me to make sure it was one with pseudoephedrin in it for it to be most effective.

I stopped cold turkey March 1st, and was fine in the boob that last nursed with. On March 9th, after his bottle I let him finish off the other one to relieve the pain. After that, I was 100% pain free!

Forgot to say that I was battling clogged ducts and clogged nipple pores for 9 months while BFing, so I was super nervous about weaning. Perhaps because I weaned so slowly (1 dropped session each month), the clogged ducts didn't flare up.
