Trying to Get Pregnant

First Repsonse Ovulation Test??????

Hi,

Not sure if I am in the right area to ask this question, but does anyone have experience with the First Response Ovulation Tests? I bought two 20 count packs and have tested everyday for a whole month (I have been testing 3 times a day and made sure that I hadn't had anything to drink for 2-3 hours before testing...yeah, I didn't want to miss my LH surge). Anywho, I only got one line (the control line) on every single test (both packs)...I guess you could say I got evap lines (very gray and hard to see....). I double checked the expiration date and have always completely re-sealed the bag. Has anyone else had this problem?? I was a little tiffed at spending so much money on something that just did not work at all. :(

Thanks for any input and sorry if I am in the wrong area....

Are you asking if any of us have gone 2 weeks without catching an LH surge? Yes. Yes, I have.
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.

  • I guess you should try again and also do the temp thing everyone here likes to do. Maybe you just aren't ovulating. Who knows :/
  • There is a possibility that you aren't ovulating. Do you temp and use FF? Have you read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility? Temping is a much more reliable way to know when you have ovulated. When you get a chance, read the newbie blog at the top of the page, there is a wealth of information.
    Good luck!

What cycle day are you on? I do think its strange that no second line showed up at all. Don't most people always have some sort of faint second line?
I've never used the FR, but I almost never have a 2nd line on several other brands.

ETA: At least no second line until the lh surge.

  • Sorry, was just confused about the test. Next time I'll use one and then maybe you will feel better about it.
  • I actually tested every day last month (from day 1-31). I haven't had a period in over a year due to the fact that I am still nursing my daughter, but I temped the previous month and spiked on the 17th. I was just curious if other people have had issues with these tests not working. I just can't imagine I missed my surge when I was testing so much.

Why not link your chart? You are leaving a lot of information out, and if you can do simple math, 2x20=40 40/3=13.3 So given what you told us, you tested for less than 2 weeks.

  • I think I might have to just start temping again. Oh, and as for have 40 First Response OPK...I got an awesome deal on Amazon from a seller who was selling one and giving the second away for free.  :-D That's why I wanted to make sure the expiaration date was still good. :)

You might have to start temping again? Did you just say you got a temp spike on the 17th?

  • I have not received a period since I have gotten pregnant with my daughter, so my last period was October 20, 2013. And yes, it seems weird with the math, but I went out and bought cheaper tests near the end of the month to finish it out and still got only one line.

If you temped last month, why aren't you still temping?  And your info is confusing, if you test three times a day with having bought 40 tests, that would mean you could only test for around two weeks, not a full month.  So either you didn't test three times a day every day, or you only tested for two weeks - which is it?????????  (You seem to like multiple question marks so I'm trying to speak your language and highlight the question I really want you to answer)  If you actually didn't test three times a day every single day, then you could very well have missed a short surge.  AND if you're still breastfeeding, do you not realize how wonky that can make your cycles still?  If you just got your first PP period last month, there's no guarantee you'll have anything close to regular cycles from here on in, you could very well go another bunch of months without ovulating or another period.  Until you stop BFing completely, you cannot bank on any sort of regularity in your cycles.

So you're not cycling yet and think it's crazy to go a month without ovulating? Now I'm even more confused.

"Have not received a period" makes it sound like a gift, what a weird turn of phrase   :-?

  • All I asked was "Has anyone else had this problem?" AND I wrote down that I went out and bought cheaper one for the end of my cycle. I don't get why some people can't just answer the question without being snide or rude...no worries, I can figure this out on my own.

?????? Just for the those people who dgaf

Oh! Well this is the reason! If you are still nursing, there is a really good chance you aren't ovulating.
I would just hang tight, get your first PP cycle and THEN start TTC. It will save you money in OPK tests ;)
