Very Quick and Easy Peanut Butter Lactation Cookies
1 package (snack size {Just cut recipe in half if using snack size} or regular) Betty Crocker Peanut butter Dry Cookie mix
1-2 Tablespoons Brewers Yeast --Start off with one because its very bitter
1 Tablespoon Chia Seeds (optional but adds addition protein and omega 3)
1-2 Tablespoons Flaxseed or Ground flaxseed meal
1/2 Tablespoon Fenugreeek. (I just opened up some of my capsules).

Prepare mix according to the back of the package. Add in the above listed additional ingredients and mix well if mix seems too dry add in 1 teaspoon of water at a time until back to original consistency. Roll into balls then roll in sugar. Place on a baking sheet and press down with fork. Bake according to package directions.

Mommy tip of the week: Toss the lotion bottle in the tub while bathing LOs. It will warm the lotion up so its not cold going on after they have a nice warm bath!

Re: **BF & Pre-BF Check In**

  • 1. How old are your LOs: 5 months old today!!

    2. Short term/ Long term goals: 6 months/ 1 year or more

    3. Accomplishments / Struggles: They refuse to sleep much at night but hopefully this will end soon because this mama is tired! The one is a thumb sucker so he is always trying to sneak his little thumb in while we are nursing.

    4. EBF, EPing, Supplementing?: EBF with one 1-3 oz bottle at night if needed.

    5. Any questions this week?: When did you all introduce solids? My boys are soon approaching the 6 month mark so I don't know when I should start. DS1 was not a fan and went to table food around the 8-9 month mark.

    6. GTKY:  What is your favorite Disney movie and why? I literally picked the hardest question this week because I could list 30 easily but Monsters Inc is pretty high on the list as is Alice in wonderland and Pirates of the Caribbean and Halloweentown!

  • 1. How old are your LOs: 11 days. Born at 35.3

    2. Short term/ Long term goals: transition her to exclusively nursing/ 1 year

    3. Accomplishments / Struggles:
I'm so glad both are able to latch on and had gained weight at their 1 week check up (not back to birth weight yet though)
He wants to eat constantly right now but only for 5 minutes. It can be exhausting. Also I found out I have a uti this morning and even though I told them over and over I was 10 days postpartum and breast feeding , one of the meds they prescribed is not recommended when breast feeding babies under 1 month. Good thing I asked the pharmacist too!

    4. EBF, EPing, Supplementing?:
    He- EBF
She - mostly BF but takes a few ounces of BM in a bottle throughout day

    5. Any questions this week?:
How long does the 10 day feeding frenzy last?

    6. GTKY: What is your favorite Disney movie and why?

These are our first so I feel like I've been out of the Disney loop for awhile now. Aladdin maybe bc I love the music?
  • 1. how old are your little ones: about 4 1/2 months

    2. short term/long term goals: still working on perfecting their latches since transitioning from the nipple shields/ nurse for one year

    3. Accomplishments/struggles: things are going really well right now, they're finally getting more efficient and nursing for about 20 min instead of the 45 min-1 hour they were doing before. / still dealing with some pain but its getting better

    4. EBF, EPing, supplementing:  EBF except 2 oz that we give them as a way to get them to take their vitamins and little man's medication

    5. questions: i'm wondering, for those with preemies, when did you introduce solids (mine were 34 weeks btw)

    6. GTKY favorite Disney movie: hmm, this is hard. I'd have to say beauty and the beast, I love that one

  • @SmallCityLiving‌ the cluster feeding for us didn't end until 7-8 weeks. And it happens again with every growth spurt. However after the first 7 weeks those cluster feeds are much easier.

@karah4816‌ mine were 34 weekers .. Well 33&6 that's exactly what I was wondering too. The early intervention people except the BF nurse keeps telling me to start but I never did baby food with my first and feel like a FTM with this. I don't know if they are ready or not. They seem like newborns to me still haha! Do yours seem ready or are you more likely to go by adjusted age to start?

Mine don't seem ready to me. Their pediatrician said we could start once they've hit all their 4 month milestones, my son has hit all of his and my daughter has hit most of hers but I just don't feel like they're ready. I might wait until they're 6 months just to be safe

  • 1. How old are your LOs:
    Just turned 5 months
    2. Short term/ Long term goals:
Short term: make it through the day...seriously it's been a rough 2 weeks for feedings.
    Long term: 1 year
    3. Accomplishments / Struggles:
Again, it's been rough lately.  Been battling thrush for almost a month with some plugged ducts as well, which has really affected my supply.  They seem to be so unhappy at the breast (which I'm assuming is from a lower supply/slower flow).  No more falling asleep while nursing: they usually end up frustrated and whinny.  Then they get really mad when I try to give them a bottle of BM because they want to nurse...it's a vicious cycle.
    4. EBF, EPing, Supplementing?:
Was EBF but have been supplementing recently a lot more than I'd like.
    5. Any questions this week?:
When will they just cooperate and be happy ;)
    6. GTKY:  What is your favorite Disney movie and why?
I was obsessed with 101 Dalmation as a kid.

    1. How old are your LOs: almost 6 months

    2. Short term/ Long term goals: 1 year as I'm pretty confident we'll make it to the end of the week (6 month goal)

    3. Accomplishments / Struggles: weight gain still isn't that great.

    4. EBF, EPing, Supplementing?: H is EBF and I EP for E.

    5. Any questions this week?: We're starting solids this week. How did you guys do this? Breastfeed/bottle first and then try right after? Or add solid food in between breastmilk feedings?

    6. GTKY: What is your favorite Disney movie and why? I do not like animated movies (or kids movies in general - I'm not looking forward to when the twins want to go to movies. I'll have to send them with their dad because he will actually enjoy them too).

  • @ashb62 I am having the exact same problem! They are up every single hour and it's exhausting. I feel like a zombie! I have tried everything from sleeping them in the RNP the bassinets the pack n play the cribs even our bed out of desperation. We tried half swaddled, no swaddled, completely swaddled, It doesn't matter what we do they just constantly wake up. I'm the only one who has ever gotten up with them to do the night routine and feeding so I am trying to keep myself from resenting the fact my DH gets a full nights sleep every night.

@SV917‌ have you checked your LOs on the 'WHO' growth chart? Most doctors use CDC and that one is made for formula fed the WHO is for breastfed babies and it was so shocking to me when my pedi showed me the difference and my preemies actually fell in the 50% range but weren't even on the CDC. I was upset because I had been stressing about the weight gain only to find out they are right on track and the other DRs had been pushing the formula needs on me.

Yeah, we're using the right chart. They were barely on the WHO chart the last time we checked and the last few weeks they haven't gained much. For E just being on the growth chart at all is huge (she had severe IUGR) but H is just long and skinny and active. He moves constantly, even in his sleep so he burns a lot of calories (wish I could work out in my sleep and lose the last bit of baby fat). I'm hoping adding solids will help him.

  • @AshB62‌ at least I know I'm not alone! I don't understand how they can not be tired too. It's just so frustrating. They don't really nap either so it's a mystery to me

  • How old are your LOs: 3 weeks tomorrow 2. Short term/ Long term goals: Wean off supplements and nipple shield/nurse for a year 3. Accomplishments / Struggles: We went to the dr today, and they are both past their birth weights! We have phased out all but 2 supplements, which is exciting! Struggles--we have thrush :-( all three of us are on medicine now. I am a little overwhelmed by everything I've read about trying to get rid of it. 4. EBF, EPing, Supplementing?: EBF with 2 daily BM supplements 5. Any questions this week?: Anyone have experience with thrush? Any tips? 6. GTKY: What is your favorite Disney movie and why? Nero! I love every part of that movie!

  • 1. How old are your LOs: They will be 5 months on Monday!

    2. Short term/ Long term goals: 6 months/ 1 year

    3. Accomplishments / Struggles: I am always worried that my babies aren't getting enough because we are EBF. They eat for only about 10 mins each feeding and when we tandem it's usually only 5-10 mins and they don't want anymore. They are growing perfectly fine and they aren't starving so I'm guessing they are just really fast eaters and my milk comes out fast? Anyone else's babies eat this fast?

    4. EBF, EPing, Supplementing?: EBF and some solids. (My ped told me to start between 4-6 months, whenever we were ready. I started about a week ago because they seemed interested in my food and would open their mouths when the spoon came close. They are doing pretty well so far on rice cereal. My ped said he wanted them to have been on solids by the time we went in for the 6 month visit! My babies were 38 weekers so I don't think it was too early for us.)

    5. Any questions this week?: I am also struggling with the no sleep, up every hour with my babies. They STTN around 2 months so I thought they were really good sleepers but around 3 1/2 they have been awful sleepers! Tried different swaddling, different pj, I don't want to put them in my bed with me so I don't know how else to help them sleep longer stretches! My ped said solids before bed might help because they will be a little fuller but nope! Is it just the 4 month sleep regression I have read about? Hopefully all our little ones start sleeping better so we can all get some sleep!

    6. GTKY: What is your favorite Disney movie and why? I've always loved the little mermaid and beauty and the beast, but my favorites now are tangled and frozen! Don't know why, but I can watch them over and over again!

  • 1. How old are your LOs: 2 weeks today

    2. Short term/ Long term goals: short term - figure out how manage pumping, breast feeding and supplementing with neosure.
Long term - transition from pumping to breast feeding

    3. Accomplishments / Struggles: Mainly struggles at this point. The girls spent 12 and 13 days in the NICU and are used to bottles. J is a decent nurser and then I usually offer a bottle of pumped milk with less than an ounce. A does not nurse at all. I offer the boob several times a day but she doesn't know what to do with it. She gets pumped milk mainly. Both girls get two bottles of neosure daily as well. Fitting in pumping and giving them opputunities to nurse has me exhausted and overwhelmed.

    4. EBF, EPing, Supplementing?: A combo of all three and I don't expect it to change

    5. Any questions this week?:

    6. GTKY: What is your favorite Disney movie and why? Little mermaid.

    28 weeks pregnant with twins.

I'm meeting with a postpartum doula tomorrow to discuss lactation support after the twins are here. Did anybody do this and was it helpful? She will come to my house which seems really convieant and the price seems ok at $20/ hour.

That seems very reasonable. I paid $100/hour to see a lactation consultant at my local hospital and I had to go to the hospital. Is this person an IBCLC? Her training and/or experience would be my only concern.

  • kdarden15:  We've been dealing with thrush too.  It's horrible!  There's a thread on the breastfeeding board titled "pink/red nipples" from April 14th that has some good treatment info.  I posted what my LC had recommended for us.  Hope it clears quickly for you guys!
