I plan on getting the Mirena 8 wks pp. I am concerned it will effect my supply. My dr. said it won't but I'm still worried. Does anyone have any experience with the Mirena and did it effect your supply?

Re: Mirena and Supply Issue
Baby #2 due 8/24/2016
I got a Mirena put in at 6 weeks PP and it was horrible. My doctor assured me that since it was localized, it wouldn't effect my supply. Well, over the next few days I noticed that LO was very fussy. Also, he never seemed satisfied after eating. When I tried pumping, I was only able to get about 1/2 an ounce, when I used to pump 6-8 ounces.
I asked the ladies on here and everyone said that it wouldn't affect me and it must be something else. However, I called my doctor that night and asked him to drive into the office to take it out. He did. A few days later my supply was back to normal.
My doctor filed a complaint with Mirena.
Be careful with that thing and watch your LO carefully to make sure he's getting enough.
My OB does not like to place IUDs in women before about 10-12 weeks postpartum, because there is a higher risk of explusion. So I was on the mini pill from 6 weeks postpartum. It did not affect my oversupply. I switched to Mirena at about 6.5 months postpartum.
I believe my supply was regulating about that time (maybe as a result of getting my period back or something), because my pumping output had been dropping for several weeks beforehand and I got my first period a week after getting the Mirena inserted. (I am one of the lucky few who continues to get a period on Mirena.) Thereafter I did not have an oversupply and had to be a lot more careful about my pumping schedule to keep up with DS. I managed to avoid supplementing before he turned one, and continued to nurse until DS was 19 months.
