Sooner with old OB or later with new OB?

Hi ladies. I'm wondering what you all think. While we were TTC, we took hospital tours and I decided to switch my OB because she delivers at the most ehhhh hospital and we did not feel comfortable with that. I found a new OBGYN and had my annual there in February. I liked her and know a few people who go to the practice so I felt comfortable.

When I found out I was pregnant, I called the new OB and they said we will see you when you're 8 weeks - appointment is on May 6th. I was confused that they didn't want to bring me in earlier. I even called and asked to come in for blood work and they told me no. So then I called my old OB and they made an appointment to bring me in at 7 weeks on April 29th.

Now I'm not sure what to do. I know I want to deliver with the new OB at the better hospital but I'm so tempted to go to my old OB just for the first appointment to get in a week earlier and be checked out. Then I could just switch back to the new OB. I know. I sound crazy. Help! What do you think is best? Any thoughts you have to share would be appreciated!

  • It's only a difference of one week. If you like the new OB, just wait the week. I don't have a first appointment until 9+ weeks on May 15

I agree with the PPs. I know it's tough to wait - I have to wait until 9 weeks and I'd really like to go now! But it's only one week. I could see if it was more than that. Hang in there!

  • I know it feels like forever away -my appt is also May 6 and it is so hard to wait! But you don't want to have two first appts especially with an OB you don't prefer.
  • Just wait for the doctor you like. It's only one week.

  • Same situation here, switched OBs to deliver at a better hospital, scheduled my annual but got pregnant, so now they're seeing me at 8 weeks.  Its totally normal for a "normal" pregnancy.

  • It's only a week difference, I'm not sure why you'd switch back to deliver at a hospital you're not comfortable with. It's totally normal to wait until 8 weeks, a lot of doctors are 10, if you have no experience with loss or infertility issues.

  • Yeah, just for a week, I would wait to see the OB you like, unless you have a history of early losses and just need that earlier confirmation. I understand the mind games that pregnancy plays, so do whatever makes you feel most comfortable!

  • Wait for the new OB. Eight weeks is a perfect time for a dating u/s, too.

  • Stick with the new Dr. With both my other pregnancies they didn't want me to come in till like 8/9wks. We did a dating u/s and we're actually able to the baby with a beautiful heart beat. This pregnancy with a new OB they have me coming in at 6wks. I was so confused lol.

  • I'm with everyone else.  Wait the week and see the new doctor that you plan to stay with.  It's a hassle to transfer everything over and it's just one week.  I had my first appointment with my son at 8 weeks - it's pretty standard policy to wait that long.

  • I'm high risk and had a loss in December and my doctor still isn't seeing me until 8 weeks. It's totally normal. Unless you have a history of early loss or some other issue, I'm not sure why you think you should be going in for early bw.

  • A huge percentage of pregnancies miscarry very early... also there is really nothing to so before 8 weeks unless you are having a problem.

I was in this EXACT situation and I decided to wait an extra 3 weeks for the new OB that gets great reviews in my town.  I could have been seen at 6 weeks with the old one, but she is weird and it wasn't worth it to me. so I'm going to the new Dr. on 5-14 at just 9 weeks. :)

  • I would see the new OB. My clinic also does not want to see me until 8 weeks.

Thanks everyone!  I knew I was being a little impatient and should just wait til the 8 week appointment with my new OB, but I needed to see all your expert advice in black and white to confirm and help me hold off!

  • I would stick with the new OB. Makes things a lot easier. Mine doesn't see until at least 8 weeks. Not only that, they "new" OB might make you do a pap, etc again. I ran into that problem before when I switched docs mid pregnancy.
