Update- Anyone else at the hospital and hoping to *not* have the baby for a while?

Update- Looks like we'll be meeting our little guy soon - I'm being induced as soon as all the orders go though (more detail further down). *********** Got sent to the hospital after my 38 week appointment for abnormally high blood pressure (165/110) and protein in my urine. Readings have kept highish, so they are keeping me overnight for 24 hours to do the urine catch, hourly blood pressure readings and NSTs every 4 hours. Tomorrow afternoon they'll decide if I can go home or if I'll be induced. I really don't feel ready (or feel like my baby is ready) for this pregnancy to be over. I'm definitely tired of pregnancy symptoms, but I'm worried our little one isn't totally ready to be an outside baby, and to be honest, I'm scared about the idea of having an induction, especially two weeks before our due date, since I can't imagine my body is ready to get kicked into labor. I know there are many brave women on here who were induced even earlier, and me be worried at this point might seem silly, but it is just so not what I was expecting. DH is at home, since we decided it was silly to have him here when nothing was actually going on, but I'm feeling a bit alone.

Is there anyone else who is in a similar situation? I know so many lovely ladies are heading into L&D to have their beautiful babies, but I'm not ready to be one of them yet :(. Or just some positive thoughts that I don't end up having pre-eclamsia would be much appreciated.

Re: Update- Anyone else at the hospital and hoping to *not* have the baby for a while?

  • I was induced at 38weeks 4 days due to gestational hypertension. I felt totally unprepared because like you I was sent to L&D straight from a routine appointment. My induction actually went really smoothly and my LO arrived less than 24 hours after I got to the hospital. She was/is totally healthy just a little small.

I hope you can get some sleep tonight. Sending T&Ps your way!

  • Thanks so much @Ashleyahann ! That's super comforting to hear that you had such a smooth induction after going through something similar :)

  • Twists and turns when you're unprepared for them are really hard. Thinking about you and hoping you get to wait to go into labor on your own. I wouldn't worry about LO too much though, 38w5d is pretty fully baked (says the momma of a 29 weeker who came home at 35 adjusted and is basically expecting this kid to walk out of her ute). Keep us posted.

  • I'm being induced next wed 39+3 and I'm not ready, this pregnancy has gone really quick it doesn't seem like baby is even gonna come, and now I've got a date I'm sooooo nervous too :(
  • I was having problems with my blood pressure and when I went for my NST at 38w4d and ended up with RCS 3hours later. I was nervous and unprepared but I'd rather have her a little early than risk her having problems because of my blood pressure but I was gonna have a SRCS at 39w0d anyway. Ts&Ps everything turns out ok with your test and LO gets to bake a little longer.
  • I was admitted to the hospital straight from a doctor appointment at 35 weeks. It's absolutely crazy feeling. We managed to keep our girl in for one more week, but I was stuck in the hospital that whole time.

Wishing you the best of luck and health no matter what happens, but fingers crossed you get to go home soon and labor starts on its own. If you are induced, I just know you will rock it! And at the end of it all, when you're snuggled up with your healthy baby, having the "perfect" labor and delivery seems much less important.
  • Thanks, all! I really appreciate the words of advice and reassurance, and the stories from those of you that went through something similar. I really do just want our baby here healthy, which makes it a little easier to be open to whatever happens, even if it's still a little scary :)

  • I was induced at 37+1 for the same reason. I just had gestational hypertension but not high enough to be preeclampsia. The induction was a super smooth process for me & my baby was born happy & healthy. You are going to be just fine. Try (easier said than done) to stay calm & keep your spirits up. I'll be thinking of ya!
  • Did they decide to induce you today? I've been thinking about you & sending T&P your way!
  • Pressure stayed high since I've been here, with some pretty extreme numbers a couple hours ago, so they have decided to induce, even though the 24 hour urine catch isn't over. Feeling a bit scared, but hopefully everything goes okay. Thanks again for the support ladies!

  • You will be just fine! Sending happy thoughts your way!
  • Good thoughts coming your way! I was in a similar situation at 35 weeks and they almost delivered me. It's scary when it's sudden but I just kept thinking that the doctors would do what was safest for me and the baby. I'm being induced this Tuesday (39w) and knowing about it still makes me a little nervous!
  • Good luck!!! Hoping everything goes smoothly!! You will have your baby soon :)

  • Hope everything is going great with your induction. I know it's not what you were hoping for, but sending lots of happy thoughts and wishes that it's a positive experience. And yay! You're having your baby! Good luck, lady.
