Tylenol and constipation

LO has been having difficulty pooping and I am shovelling the prunes to her. I had thought it was because of all the solid food she has been eating. But then I was wondering if the Tylenol and Advil I have been giving her for teething pain might cause it?

Re: Tylenol and constipation

  • I don't give anything to LO (meds) but when he gets constipated (quite often) the only thing that helps is diluting his solids with pureed vegetable broth.

  • Not in my experience.

More solids will cause more formed, less frequent poops.

Try and warm bath and rectal stimulation with a rectal thermometer.

  • @Iand LoveandYou‌ I am giving her pears now as well. @sandraynic‌ LO will only allow me to feed her fruit and yogurt from a spoon, she has to do it herself or will refuse it. (I am stopping yogurt in case it makes it worse). @valstulas‌ we gave her two baths last night so she could poop, poor baby. Thanks for your replies, seeing her struggle sucks.

  • Oh no :( I am sorry she is going through this... LO gets constipated but he doesn't seem to care, I'm the one who is paranoid about it.

  • We changed from rice cereal to oatmeal and LO poops a lot more and they aren't as solid as before (I mean they wee pellets before). Remember puffs are usually made from rice which can constipate. Pears are great too.

  • @shara3333‌ it is great idea to switch to oatmeal instead of rice. I will try that also. Since cereal requires me to feed her I will have to mix it half and half with fruit anyway so double the help. Thanks for the reply. :0)

I hope your LO is pooping better... Can't believe I just typed that.
Just wanted to say that I do think yogurt can constipate. At least in my opinion it does for my LO.
  • We do plain Greek yogurt every day. So I really believe our culprit was rice cereal. But every belly is different. Good luck!

  • Ty was getting Tylenol and Motrin over the weekend for teething pain. His poops have been normal.
  • Can you skip cereal all together? I steam one apple and 4 dried apricots. Puree those with one pear (all peeled of course) and mix with custard I make with whole milk and corn starch, but you could mix with yogurt instead. It's delicious.
