Rachnan's Overdue Birth Story

Congrats to everyone who has had their LO's over the last week and a half!

Short: Tyler Benjamin born 4/7 at 10:57pm, 6lbs 12oz and 19in, via c section due to stalled labor after induction and LO decel'ing during contractions

I started having contractions on Sunday night (4/6) around 8:30 but they were manageable and between 5-10 minutes apart.  This kept up all night and I really didn't sleep at all.  Called my OB the morning of 4/7 since I was exhausted and desperate for some sort of progress. She said to take our time and come down to L&D and get checked out.  This was great since DH was a nervous wreck and we didn't need to rush. We got to L&D and I had not progressed at all from my Thursday internal.  This was so upsetting and they were telling me we wouldn't be admitted, but my dr. wanted to check my AFI since it had been on the low side a couple weeks before. So the midwife checked and AFI was at a 4, so we were admitted afterall! We went with a foley bulb and lowest dose of pitocin to be induced.  Everything was going well, got the epi (this was terrible, took 4 shots to get me numb and I felt  them trying  to put it in a few times), water was broken (had meconmium but they weren't too concerned at this point), foley bulb came out and I was at about 6cm!

They came and checked me several times over the next few hours and there was basically no progression.  The midwife could also feel his head starting to cone even though I was still at a -1. At about 7pm the midwife/nurse noticed his heart rate decel'ing with each contraction and not fully recovering.  This went on for a couple hours and my dr. came in to discuss c section.  Between him not handling the contractions well (she stopped the pit), me stalling at 6, the meconium in the water, and his head coning even though he was still high up, we decided on c section (the doc said it would end in c section now or in a few hours and we didn't want to risk having an emergency situation).  As it turned out, there was little chance he would have come out vaginally due to his position in my pelvis so that made me feel a little better about it all!

We are very happy he's here even though the section wasn't our ideal, but it was all totally worth it! PIP to follow!
