Ryver Raine is here (very long!)

edited April 2014 in April 2014 Moms
So on Saturday the 12th started having contractions. They were 5min apart at 1pm but no other symptoms and no bloody show so I just timed them. Mostly they were regular but every few hours they would skip back to being 13 min apart working down to 2min apart. Around 8 I texted our midwives just to let them know in case it turned into something more. I was really afraid of it being another episode of prodromal labour that I had been suffering from since 36 weeks. Midwife said to call her back when they were really intense and they would head down to Tulare. I laboured all night but contractions became even stranger and even more irregular. By 3am contractions were very strong but the timing was horrible so I just kept working through them. At 630 I was having a very hard time working through the contractions and we had my GF Brit pick up DD. Finally convinced DH to call the midwives to come to the house. While we awaited their arrival DH kept me up and walking. This was such a different labour then with DD, it was very painful and intense. After an hour the midwife and her student arrived, she checked me and I was a 7 so we decided to set up the tub. I continued to walk and do stretches through the contractions as they got the tub ready. I laboured in the tub squatting and pivoting for several hours. At noon I started to feel like pushing. I had the midwife check me. This is where things went down hill. This time when she checked me I was a 4 with a huge bulging bag. I was so upset, and the pain in my hip/sacrum was getting worse and I was having trouble fighting the urge to push. So I got out and started circling my living room again and tried to eat lunch.

Soon however contractions were unbearable. The midwife got her raboozo out and tried to get the baby to reposition but things seemed to only get worse. Our last attempt to reposition baby involved DH lifting my belly while I contracted. I was having contractions every 3 minutes and I couldn't take it anymore and fearing a poor outcome I made the deduction to transfer.

The ride from Tulare to Clovis was the longest ever. The student midwife came with us as our doula since she had never seen a hospital birth. I rode in the back seat and would get down on the floor of the truck with my chest on the floor and butt in the air to try to stop me pushing. Unfortunately the pushing had become involuntary at this point. At about 3pm we arrived at Clovis Community and was taken straight to L&D triage. The triage nurse checked me and I was at a 5 with a still hugely bulging bag of water. I explained our last birth and c/s and was quickly transferred to a L&D room. My OB was on and I was so happy to see her. We were now just waiting for the epidural so we could stop the pushing sensation. The anesthesiologist was in a c/s so I asked for some IV meds. The nurse checked me before my meds and quickly left the room. A minute later she came back and informed me that I wouldn't be having any IV drugs or epi because I was complete! I couldn't believe it, I insisted she have the OB come In and double check me. She was wrong very wrong! I was still a 5! It was at this time we were discovering my unique anatomy, aparently I have a magically long vag and cervix. I wanted to cry. Finally I got IV meds but they didn't help. The epi was placed a short time later. It was a great epi and I was able to move and feel my legs and contractions without the need to push! I was checked every 2 hours but I was stuck at 5. At 7 we decided to break my waters in a last attempt to get me progressing again. I was checked every 2 hours but made no progress and I started to develop a swollen anterior lip. At 330 I was checked one last time and that's when I reached the end. I asked for the c/s. I ugly cried a lot. The surgery went well, and was much better than my first c/s but I was very confused/disoriented and slept through most of it. I was woken up briefly and told DD2 was 9lbs 11oz! As it turns out they weighed her wrong and she's only 8lbs 13oz but still a big baby. So DD2 has a big circular bruise on her forehead from being stuck in my pelvis but otherwise perfect. I will never be able to have a vaginal delivery as it turns out, and I have desided that's ok. We have named her Ryver Raine because of her strange cowlicks! She was 8lbs13oz, 21"long with a 13.75inch head born 4/14/14 at 0432.

Sorry this was so long, but It was a long weekend!

  • I know you were really hoping for an HBAC, but it's good you were able to make the decision on your own to go to the hospital and nothing bad happened to you or your squish. She's beautiful mama! Congrats.
