Has anyone done the Whole 30? I would love to hear about your experience and any tips you have.
I ordered the book and plan to start it around the first of May (as long as our escrow closes on time). I definitely need a reset because to be honest when it comes to chocolate/sugar I am like an addict. I NEED my next fix, it is sad.
TIA
If anyone wants to do it with me, I would love some company.

Re: Whole30?
i find that i dont have the afternoon energy slump anymore. DH no longer has random aches and pains that he has had for years. he has lost 10+ pounds so far (not supposed to weigh yourself til the end, but he caved) and i've lost the remainder of my baby weight; all of my usual summer shorts fit or are big on me now. my brother and SIL did it in november and he, who normally has awful seasonal and animal allergies, feels 100% better. obviously he has maintained the eating and lifestyle changes, but still.
overall, i miss having a bagel in the morning, but i've always known those bagels go straight to my hips and now that weight is gone. i also miss candy and plan to hit the after easter sales for a few favorites to reward DH and i for making it through the 30 days. but it's more out of habit than a real craving, if that makes sense. i wouldnt mind eating this clean for the long haul.
@hendy02, the weight will be great to see go but I am happy to hear the other side effects as well. I am always achey and exhausted, it sucks.

I haven't done it while nursing though and I'm too scared to risk it.

You can have sweet potatoes on the whole 30. Thats what we ate 90% of the time before anyway so it hasn't been a big thing for us.
So can you do this without buying the book or is the book mandatory in order to get it right?
I am going to attemp to make spaghetti squash tonight. Any tips or tricks?
I do have Fb. I'll send you a message when I get home (again).
I am kind of intimidated to start but I need to. I feel like my 80 year old grandma is doing better then me right now.
@beernifer, yay! I am excited.

Step One: Planning (The Most Important Step)
I normally spend an hour or two on Thursday or Friday night planning my meals. I use Evernote and create a different note for each week, that way I can track what I made recently or what we really liked/didn't like. I have a pretty robust Pinterest board of recipes and also have some websites and cookbooks I look at for ideas. I check out the circular at my two grocery stores and decide which one I'll go to based on what sales are happening on meat and dairy and produce. I always do a crockpot meal on Sunday, because that is one of the days I prep for the week and don't feel like making yet another meal that day. We eat the same thing for breakfast most weeks - I eat two hardboiled eggs and yogurt, I make DH breakfast sandwiches that I freeze and take out for him the night before with eggs, ham, cheese on an English muffin. Lunches are variable and dinners are normally cooked on Sunday (crockpot), Wednesday (real quick dinner with easy cleanup) and Friday (nicer dinner with wine and relaxing) with leftovers in between.
Step Two: Shop
I go to the grocery store on Saturday morning.I make sure to shop the perimeter of the store for the healthiest items. Produce, meat, dairy. No packaged stuff in the middle. Normal spend for a week is approximately $100-$120.
Step Three: Prep
I take about an hour on Saturday and another hour on Sunday to prep all of our meals for the week, breakfast, lunch and dinner. When I get home, dinner is quick and breakfast for the next day is just put in a lunch bag.
I know this won't work for everyone, but it has become a routine for me. I like to plan and prep and cook, so it is also enjoyable. Saves so much time during the week and we don't eat crap.
