I was diagnosed last week and have only had 1 week to alternate my diet to make it fit within the numbers. My fasting levels are supposed to be 60-90. I've gotten 4 over 90 this week (91, 94, 95, 101). My sugar levels 1 hour after each meal are supposed to be below 120 and I've hit all of those perfect. I'm supposed to pee on a stick to check my ketones every morning as well.
So....today the nurse practictioner said she wasn't as concerned with the 4 high fasting numbers as she is concerned with my ketones. I've had "small" amounts every morning and she wants those negative or trace. She told me I should eat more carbs throughout the day and that will help with the ketones and might bring my fasting levels down as well. Anyone have experience with the same problem? High fasting numbers and/or amounts of ketones? What'd you do about it? I'm trying to modify my diet and exercise so I won't be put on insulin at night. Of course, if that doesn't work, I'll take the insulin cuz I want my baby safe and healthy. Thanks!
