formula feeding babies....pls help

How many weeks is your baby and how many ounces do they take per feeding? I'm feeding my two week old 2.5 oz at a feeding and it's supposed to last him 3-4 hours but today he's wanted to eat like every two hours! How much do you guys feed?

I am pumping but supplementing with formula then bottle feed as well since I am having milk supply issues. Anyway, I was doing 2oz every 3 oz and now my LO is 2 weeks old. She seems to be hungry more so I upped it to 2.5oz every 3 hours. But the past day or two I feel like she has been getting up about 30min early and seems hungry (routing, sucking lips, etc). I too keep wondering how much I should actually be feeding her at this point. She gobbles the 2.5oz down now so quick but seems satisfied and goes to sleep after. But, also seems to be getting up earlier to eat.

  • There is no "supposed to" with babies.  If he's hungry, feed him.  He's coming up on the 3-week growth spurt and so will probably eat more ounces and more often.  FWIW, I've never met a newborn that regularly goes 4 hours without eating, especially during the day.  Most reliably eat every 2 hours.

This. My FF baby didn't start routinely having 4 hour stretches between feeding during the day until he was about 16 weeks. Add a little more to each bottle and if he's hungry every two hours, feed him every two hours.
  • Baby Nicholas is now 5 weeks 3 days and a very chunky healthy eater. He usually eats 4 oz every 3 hours, same at night. I am looking forward to at least 4 hours between feedings at night, mainly b/c I get up so early to send kids/husband off to school/work. Baby weighed in at 12 pounds & 22 inches long at doctor appt. Thursday!

This ^^^ My DD is a little over 2 months and she has yet to go more than three hours between a bottle when she's awake. Right now, she's getting 3-4 oz every 2-3 hours. This chart helped me a lot. Hope this helps!

  • We just feed her til she stopped drinking, she was a big baby though was drinking about 3 oz.

But don't do what we did and mistake her I'm over tired cry for her hungry cry. Meant some long painful weeks til I realised.
  • 10 weeks and he eats 4 oz every 1 to 2 hours. I tried moving him to 6 since he eats so frequently, but he still only eats the 4. He has been drinking 4 oz since about 3 or 4 weeks old.

I also agree with this. My little nugget is 6 weeks and he is a very good eater. He is eating 4 oz during the day and 5 oz before bedtime. During the day with 4 oz, he will eat about every 3 hrs and at night he will wake up once around 4 am (his 5oz bottle given around 11pm-12am right before we go to bed and lay him in his bassinet.) We ran this by his pediatrician and she said this was ok and healthy. I agree with other comments saying babies at this age really are not on a "routine" if they are hungry they will eat. The way I see it eating is a good thing. Just lets you know they are growing and healthy :)

I'm in the same boat ... I tried increasing and it just didn't work ... O well I guess I'm sure it will change soon enough ... I hope
  • Our DD is just 8 weeks. She eats anywhere from 3-6 oz. She has a 6 oz bottle at her last feeding. She sleeps 6-8 hours. She drinks 3-4 oz every 2-3 hours during the day.
  • Grace drinks 6 oz every 2 1/2 -3 hrs. She starts looking at 2 1/2 hrs I think 6 oz is alot so to move up is too much she's 11 weeks. She's been sleeping from 9-530a. Sometimes she does a bottle at 12a but I am trying to Judy give her her pacifier.
