I've been told a chiropractor can make a huge difference in sciatica but can't speak to it personally. Make sure you go to one who knows pre-natal techniques though.
Sorry you're in pain! How you feel better soon.
Aug' 14 July siggy challenge - Motivational Speaking For Moms
I have been really bad sciatica pain since Friday. I've had it every so often, but it's been non-stop since Friday. I legitimately could not get off the couch, I had to roll. I am going to talk to my doctor about it on Thursday, but I pinned a bunch of yoga poses to try out too. Stretching is supposed to help. I hope it goes away, I can't drag around my right leg for the next few months!
I think @cruelsound was having some sciatica pain?
I have pelvic girdle pain and it feels like it is in my butt, but more off to one side than in the middle. It makes it hard to walk and/or stand up. My OB told me to lay down on my side and put a pillow between my legs when it is bad. It gets worse after I do too much. I like the idea of chiropractics but we do not have one nearby. But I would just ask what they recommend to do about it.
This sounds more like my pain. Like my hip goes out of joint or something (sometimes after trying to stretch like sitting with butterfly legs) and I can't move or get up because of a pain in my butt cheek!
I've tried the pillow between my legs and it doesn't seem to do much.
I get SI (sacroiliac) joint pain, which is a specific kind of pelvic girdle pain that involves the SI joints (the top of the hips where they connect to the spine on my back). It can cause butt-cheek pain and shooting pain, much like sciatica. I've read that SI joint pain is very common during pregnancy, whereas true sciatica is not.
I've had this issue for years, even before pregnancy, but pregnancy has exacerbated it. For me, it is a strengthening/ joint stability issue because I have a bit of a muscle imbalance between my glutes/ hamstrings. I've found that stretching and strengthening exercises really help. In particular, #'s 5 and 6 from these pregnancy core workouts really help: https://www.bengreenfieldfitness.com/2012/02/ab-exercises-for-pregancy/
I am guessing this wont work since you are having it pretty bad and baby is probably moving around quite a bit anyways, but when I was having sciatica around 18 weeks I coaxed baby to move by using the ice pack from my back to get him/her to move into a different position and that helped me. I think baby was laying on a sensitive spot though.
I've also found some good relief from some basic yoga poses- downward dog, pigeon pose, etc. Both of those are safe during pregnancy.
The strengthening exercises work really quickly- I do 1-2 sets of each and the pain goes away, it's like magic! That probably means I should be doing them all of the time, but I'm lazy enough about them that I wait until it bothers me. Oh well!
If it doesn't go away after birth, follow up immediately with your dr, don't wait weeks. I ended up herniating a disk and it required surgery. That really blows, before the surgery I was in worse pain than labor.
I've been dealing with what I think is sciatica or SI joint pain for several weeks now. I went to the chiro earlier this week because I just can't stand the pain anymore!
I'm really disappointed with my chiropractor. He hadn't even asked me what was wrong, literally, and he handed me a brochure about subluxations. I'm really kind of pissed at him. I'm pregnant, and sciatica/SI joint pain are common in pregnancy, yet he's insisting it's something else without even evaluating me. He ran all sorts of tests on me afterwards and told me it was my neck causing the problems in my butt, even though his "tests" showed my low back is perfectly healthy (even though every other chiro I've ever been too says I have awful hips)
Long story short, I'm not going to him anymore because 1. I hurt worse after I have left him both times this week, and 2. They don't take insurance so I am paying out of pocket for a doctor who insists subluxations are always the root problem to everything...even a simple thing like this common pain during pregnancy.
I hope you get some relief, if you do pass on any advice! I'm going to take some of the things mentioned above and try them out.
I think I have SPD, but I'm self-diagnosing. Plan to ask my OB next week. I've had a horrible ache in my pubic bone for about 3 weeks now. Feels like someone has kicked me in the crotch and bruised me repeatedly. I did have back spasms last night which may be related to sciatica. Not sure. In any case, both are very uncomfortable but at least not dangerous.

Haha... the kicked in the crotch feeling is normal! I am talking shooting pains that cause me to double over, can't stand up straight, and loose feeling in my leg! On top of that I have the kicked in the crotch feeling too.
