Some shopping/budget questions!

I have a few questions!

For kids clothes...where do u often find the most van for your buck either for coupons or sales with ok quality? I have asked in the past where your fave kids clothes are found but this question is totally budgetary related!

Where do you buy your kids' shoes?

What brands of body wash/ body creams etc to you use? Do you use them bc thy are mostly on sale or do you splurge?

Re: Some shopping/budget questions!

  • We try consignment first, then scan the clearance racks and then I look online for clothes. My mom is always buying him stuff, do we usually have the basics covered, but recently he's been needing shoes, and pjs. I don't like to buy cheap made shoes, usually that's a splurge. I buy whatever bubble bath is on sale and doesn't smell gross. I bought him some nice winter clothes this year. A fleece pullover and a new down jacket.

  • Usually, I find the best sales at Crazy 8. They are a sister store to Gymboree so the quality is similar. I actually really like their stuff.

Target clearance racks have good deals but they are really hit or miss.

I get pajamas from Children's Place when they're on sale.

I have heard Old Navy has great deals but I never go there. It's on the other side of the mall from the other kids' stores and I am apparently too lazy.

I get her shoes at Target, Payless, or Stride Rite. If I am getting a special outfit I may get the shoes to match. I got her Easter shoes from Babies R Us.

  • Clothes I usually get at Gap, Crew Cuts and Hannah Andersson outlets. I usually find really good sales at those and get good bang for my buck.

Shoes are stride rite/saucony/keds (all one store) or converse outlets.

Shampoo: for Drew I use Burts Bees. I love the smell and prefer to use minimal chemicals. The girls use Drew's Burts Bees as body wash, but need kids shampoo (usually suave kids) and Julia needs a good adult conditioner because of her curly hair. We like Herbal Essences for her and Emma usually just uses hers because I'm not buying several different kinds.

I like the Gap outlet, Gymbo, Crazy 8, Old Navy, Target and Carter's. I hit all the sale racks.

Shoes I always buy at Stride Rite. DS has a wide foot and if I'm going to splurge anywhere for kids it's shoes. Cheap shoes are bad for your feet.

For body wash we all use Dr. Bronner's and coconut oil as lotion/moisturizer

  • I shop sales online for Gap, OldNavy, and carters! They all have very good sales that I can combine with coupons! I shop several high end consignment shops in my area and get really cute boutique outfits for cheap! I shop end of season clearance at lots of stores to stock up on basics for the next year.

Shoes I buy from amazon or Marshalls and TJ maxx! My favorite brands for my kids are toms, stride rite, Nike, saltwater sandals

I use dove body wash or sometimes Philosophy or something I receive as gifts!

    Edit: Dup!
  • I like old navy, kohl's, and target.  I got a deal on her shoes at Payless last week, of course we get her good tennis shoes at stride rite (outlet).  We probably only spend about $200/year on her clothes, pjs, and shoes.

  • For clothes we shop a lot at winners, I think it's like your tj max? I do love llbean for kids clothes. They cost more but last forever. Shoes especially! For shower/bath stuff we buy what's on sale mostly. I usually get some nicer type stuff for my birthday and Christmas. That lasts awhile.
  • JBF, Walmart, Target...I get the nice stuff (Gymboree, Janie and Jack, etc.) at JBF and the cheap play in the mud clothes at the other places.  Shoes, we alternate between Walmart for the whole sizes and Stride Rite for the half sizes.  I used to do all Stride Rite, but their feet grow so quickly it was too expensive.  When they slow down a bit, I'll probably go back to all Stride Rite because I like their shoes.  Bath - we use bar soap.  The whole family uses the same kind. For shampoo or body soap, I now find sulfate free, whatever is cheapest.  I splurge on a local eczema balm for us all from a WAHM that makes it, but we also use aquaphor, so I'm not picky.  With our allergies, we are a scent free house anyhow for the most part, so cheap is just as good!

  • I only purchase Dove body wash in the 3pk at Costco WHEN they are offering a $3.00 off coupon, which makes each bottle less than $3.00. :) There's a 2 pack limit (so 6 bottles) and that carries me to the next time the $3.00 coupon appears in a booklet.

    For shoes:
I love Zullily!!! I get my kids measured and check their website daily so I know exactly what to buy when my favorite brands (Tsukihoski, Stride Rite, Keen) are available. About every 4-6 months! I save 60-75% off each pair of shoes! I use to shop the 40% off Piperlime sale every year, just after school starts but they discontinued their Kids line :(

    For clothes:
I shop for staple wardrobe pieces like 2-3 skirts, a cardigan, a coat, and 3-4 dresses (for Emily) when Mini Boden and Hannah Andersson has sales. T-shirts, leggings, capris, shorts, and skorts are all bought on the $3-5 sales at Old Navy, Target, Carter's, and the Gap outlet.

  • I get DS clothes from Gymboree, Crazy 8, Carter's and target. I also get a few things here and there off of zulily. His shoes come from stride rite.

As for body wash DH and I use dove and I use 7th generation for DS

  • We get most of DS' clothes at Bonnie Togs, which sells mostly Carters and Osh Kosh. They usually have good sales, and I often wait until the end of the season to buy stuff, because they have really good sales.

I generally splurge on nice smelling body washes/lotion for myself, it's one of my few indulgences. It's not that pricey, though, usually stuff from Bath & Body Works.

  • Kmart is usually our go to. They had BOGO kids shoes a couple weeks ago. I got 4 pairs! They also run a lot of buy one get one half off. Their clothes are cheap & last. Z has shirts & shorts there that she still wears!

Also crazy 8. Gymboree. & target sale rack

I also stock up on clothes sales. I'll buy current & the next size up. If it's something super cute I'll but whatever size is left & save it :)
  • I get everything on sale. TJ Maxx has brand name clothes that are way discounted and I like Marshall's when I want fancier shoes for DD. Gymboree is also great and Macy's you can find good stuff when you hit the right sale. Babies R Us has a ton of Carter's stuff that is almost always on some sort of sale.

I like Stride Rite most of the time for shoes.

Shampoos and lotions, etc we use Aquaphor and Aveeno products.

  • When the boys were little I bought almost everything at Carter's, gymboree, or garage sales.
We still do Carter's for jammies (usually at costco because they're cheap there!), and JcPenney for most of their other stuff.  DS1 is very very skinny and most brands will not fit him without major alterations.  DS2 gets some stuff at Target too.

  • For clothes I've been doing a lot of old navy sales (though I had like $100 of gift cards there so it helped). I've collected a lot of their super bucks (ie spend $25 get $10 off). Ill finish up the kids summer wardrobes by getting $100 worth of merchandise for $60 (and combined with sale items the deal will be even better). I used to get a lot of stuff at a consignment store for really low cost--think $1-2 a shirt, $2-3 a dress, and $2-3 for pants (all name brand too) but it seems like a lot of people found out about it and whenever I go all the stuff is picked through. Sad panda.

I really have no loyalty for shoes. I won a $100 gift card for ll bean so the kids summer shoes are from there. I use a lot of the sale blogs (think hip2save) and score that kind of stuff when there's a good deal. We also get shoes from Walmart especially for ds since he outgrows shoes so quickly and abuses them terribly. Lol.

For body wash I stick with dr bronners for the kids. It's pricey so dh and I don't use it--I grab whatever body wash I can get a deal plus coupons for.

  • For clothes I buy mostly Carter's, some Children's Place, Kohls Jumping Beans brand. I have an idea of how much I'm willing to pay for a given item (like $6/ shirt, shorts, $8/ pjs, etc) so I look at the sales and coupons and wait for the best deal.
For shoes I used to buy Payless when their feet were growing really fast. Now I find that they really wear out their shoes, so we started buying stride rite. I waited for the buy one get one half off sale. Also after we got measured in store, I found some cheaper stride rite shoes on amazon. For special occasion shoes like Christmas or Easter I try to buy whatever is the cheapest since they won't get much use anyways.
