Being paranoid or just a new schedule?

I'm not sure if I'm being paranoid or if my LO is getting sick or if she's just changing her schedule.  I'm a first time mom, so I could just be hypersensitive to these things!  The past two days I've noticed a difference in her sleeping schedule during the day.  Normally she takes several cat naps throughout the day and one 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon; however, the past two days she's taken a cat nap around 8, then a two hour nap around 10 and then another two and a half hour nap in the afternoon.  Plus she still will take an additional cat nap around 5.  She just seems a little more tired than normal, but otherwise completely fine.  She's very smiley and happy but a little more low-key so to speak.  She's not fussy and not running a fever.

She'll be 12 weeks on Thursday if that makes a difference - a growth spurt of some sort?

Re: Being paranoid or just a new schedule?

  • There's a growth spurt around 3 month. And babies just change things up sometimes. If she seems fine otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

  • It was right around 12 w that both of my boys started sleeping longer at night & then started to create a schedule for themselves. The morning 10am nap was the first thing I noticed that I could depend on being consistent each day & from there on, things got soooo much easier. :) Unless there are other symptoms, I wouldn't say she is getting sick. Sounds normal from my experience.

There is a growth spurt around that time but sometimes babies just want more sleep during the day and change up their schedule. I am a worrier and FTM and my DD will have days like that where she will nap longer or different amounts. I take note of it but it is usually nothing.

  • DD just hit 12 weeks on Sunday and this whole last week she has been sleeping and eating a ton. I assumed it was a growth spurt.
  • We are at 11 weeks and noticing small daytime changes to napping patterns now. He's pretty much on a schedule, has been for weeks and I'm trying to evaluate these changes as we go and try not to read too much into it. As long as she's happy and still sleeping at night I would say just follow her lead.
  • Thanks so much for the feedback, ladies!  I do appreciate it!
