Different results on Clearblue Ovulation Test (LH-only) and Advanced Ovulation Test

I used the Clearblue Ovulation test (LH-only) for a couple months and had success identifying Peak, but switched to the Advanced Ovulation test for a little more of a heads-up.  The first month I used the Advanced test, it skipped over High and went straight to Peak.  This month, I started using it a little sooner so I wouldn't miss the High days, and I started getting High results when I expected them.  The High days continued for 6 days, which is quite different from the previous month.  I was beginning to worry there was an issue with the tester, so the next day, I decided to test with both the Advanced test and the LH-only test.  The Advanced results showed a 7th High day, but the LH-only test showed Peak.  The following day, I tested with both again, and got  another High result with the Advanced test, and a non-peak result with the LH-only test.  Has anyone else seen anything similar?  Is there something wrong with the Advanced tester?  Could the Advanced test be less sensitive to LH than the LH-only test?  I'm unsure which test to trust!  Help, please!

  • I just starting charting BBT and CM this month.  Before now I've just been using the Ov tests.

  • If there's confusion, just have sex. And stop using multiple types of OPKs, you're clearly just confusing yourself.

  • I have read many many many times about people getting mixed/different result with different types of ovulation predictors.  I, personally, don't recommend anyone to compare multiple types of opk within the same cycle.  If you have found one that seems to work consistently, I say stick with that because the conflicting results seem to be causing you a lot of excitement/anxiety (I call anyone using "Help!" on a TTC forum highly excitable).

Also I second the recommendation of charting other fertility signs (CM) that could help you determine your fertile days, and temping to confirm O.

Finally, the only advice anyone can give you is to just keep having sex every day or every other day if you think you may be in your fertile week.

  • I only used the 2nd because I was questioning the results of the first, and knew I was able to find peak with the other test previously.  I just wondered if anyone else had ever had a similar issue with the Clearblue Advanced test.  We've been BDing every High day I've gotten, but we're both ready for a break!
  • I didn't read your entire block of text because I saw a shiny object, but...

I don't use the CBE that displays a "high" vs. "peak" reading. From reading others' posts on here regarding them, I have gathered the "peak" will display for 24 hrs after the initial reading. So, some have advised not to test again with the same monitor the next day.

    Jan 15  NOV siggy challenge:

  • If you had actually read the whole thing, you would see that i didn't test again with the same monitor.  They are 2 different monitors.  And the one that reads high/peak never showed peak, it was the other that only shows a peak result that disappears after a few minutes.

Why does it take me like 10x as many words to say this exact same thing?  I need to work on this.

Sometimes it works out, but usually I just come off as really rude or end up leaving out some vital piece of information that would make what I say actually make sense.

  • I hate advanced. It's too complicated to me and just added stress. The regular work just fine for me. I am sticking with those.

The LH-only tester doesn't have a restriction that you have to stop testing after finding peak.  It can actually identify multiple peak days if you have an extended LH surge.  I had a friend find that she had an ov problem because she found 6 LH surge days with that tester.  The Adv. test shows High for the days leading up to peak, at which point, the peak result will stay on the tester for 48 hrs, but I have yet to identify peak with the that tester.

With our busy schedules, the Advanced seemed like a good idea at the time, to give us a little more opportunity to plan ahead, but now I think I'm with you.  I also started temping and charting CM, so I can get some heads-up from CM, and have peace of mind with the temp.
  • I used the regular CB OPKs when I conceived DS with no issue, i tried the advanced when I started TFAS and HATED them, so confusing, I would get multiple days of flashing fertile days, then the "peak" (even when tempting did not confirm O) and would start testing again in a few days once the stupid peak symbol went away (since it freezes for days) and repeat the whole cycle.

I am back on the regular CB OPK now and much happier.

  • I use the CBE Advanced OPKs and I really like them, have a decent success rate on them, and have no trouble with them. Maybe that's my early UO for this week. The thing is that they're a tool with parameters and weaknesses (as all TTC tools have, including temping), so if one is going to use them, you have to understand what those weaknesses are.

OP, I have had 6 days of High and then Peak, and I have gone straight to Peak. My ovulation (no, not confirmed by temping) can vary up to 5 but generally by 2 or 3 days every month, which is totally normal. That's why when you use the Advanced you're looking with a little bit of a change-up all the time. As PPs have said, if you've found another OPK that works for you and is less stressful, just stick to that one.

What H and I do is try to have ED sex when I get a High reading, but when it lasts more than three days we cut to EOD. Then ED both days of Peak and the day after. So if I were you I would go ahead and HIO.

  • Thank you to those ladies with helpful and encouraging replies!

I'm going to give a call to Clearblue's helpline to see if they think there is an issue with the Advanced tester that I have.  I think after this month, I'm going to stick with the LH-only OPK along with temp and CM.
