waking from rolling

Lo has mastered rolling this week and so we have hit a new sleep issue. First off I know it's fine for them to sleep on their bellies once they start rolling, so that's not my concern. My question is how did you deal with lo rolling and waking themselves up?

Re: waking from rolling

  • Mainlining every source of caffeine I could find. We also moved a twin mattress into his room and took turns sleeping in there after he first got up so we weren't climbing stairs all night long. That helped us in the sense that we didn't have to be fully awake to intervene. We had a really brutal period of 6-8 wake-ups each night. The good news is, we just had to help him reposition and he would fall asleep quickly.

It was a rough time for us once he figured out how to get comfortable he gradually went back down to one MOTN wake-up just to eat.

  • Just went with it, our issue was rolling from tummy to back though, I would just sneak in the room turn him back to his tummy and he'd fall back asleep with no problem ( his room is right beside ours ) now he knows how to roll back to tummy so it's not an issue although I've noticed he stopped rolling tummy to back now so it only last a few days !

Going through this as well and my little guy. He gets incredibly upset when he rolls onto his tummy. He did fall asleep that way after waking at 4am this morning, so I know he can do it. Now to figure out how to help him realize this...
