Well, let me start by saying my husband and I are firm believers in plan your work and work your plan. However, some things you just can't plan and expect the outcome you were looking for.
I started contracting on 04/13 at 6:36pm, but the contractions were not too frequent and were manageable. Fast forward to Monday, 04/14 at 6:36am and my contractions were more frequent and intense. I tried to wait them out by going walking, taking a warm bath, drinking a lot of water, and using a yoga ball. I managed to make it to 10:30 and that's when I called my husband and said you need to come home from work the contractions are now 5 minutes apart and intense.
I had my OB appointment scheduled for 1pm and called to have it pushed up explained my situation. They told me to head to L&D.
Upon my arrival my contractions switched to 3-4 minutes apart, but I was only dilated .5 and effaced 90%. I did some walking around the hospital and an hour later was checked. At this point, I was dilated 2cm and effaced 100% so I was admitted.
I explained how I'm not completely opposed to an epi but I would rather go natural. That being said, a couple hours later I was 4cm and my contractions were causing me to overheat and tremble. Then I threw up. It was at this time I chose an epi. It worked miracles! I was checked and at 4.5cm, but the next time they checked me I was 9.5cm. They started prepping me for pushing. When I was a complete 10 (7:30pm) they started the pushing process. I pushed long and hard for three hours (the max the doctor would allow) and threw up a second time. The baby's head couldn't get through my pelvis.
So, I ended up with a c-section. I was not thrilled with how labor went, but I reminded myself how hard I worked all day and there was nothing else I could do.
I went in for my c-section (where I threw up for the third time) and my baby boy, Finnegan John, was born at 11:59pm on 4/14/14 weighing 7lbs 14oz and 19" long. He is the most precious and beautiful thing. My husband and I shared tears of joy and were instantly in love with our son.
