Kitchen design WDYT

We have been actively designing a kitchen remodel for the last three weeks. All this time I've wanted dark cabinets, a light countertop, and white(ish) subway tile backsplash. Apparently all of this meant nothing to DH because he sees it all today and says that he hates the white backsplash. Here is what we decided on. The piece with the black sticker is the counter. The large tile next to it is the flooring. I think I want to add a decorative strip to the backsplash too. It's good, right? He threw me off by hating the white.

I, personally, would prefer white subway tile with all that stuff, but I think what you've picked out is still good. I love the countertop!

@angelashly‌ Thanks! I originally picked out a maple cabinet, but wasn't in love with the colors. I will be keeping our current wall color and the maple was pulling a pink tone that I couldn't overlook. We went up about $500 by switching to the cherry, but I think it was totally worth it.

    This was the original choice.

I think both ways looks good. I like the backsplash to pop, so if I had to pick I'd pick the white subway tile.

We chose dark cabinets also with light countertops

Haha you liked every response but mine. That's ok. I still don't like subway tile.

@fredalina‌ LOL! Sorry, is this better?!

@MrsCodeMonkey‌ DH was SUPER against any white. Effin' party pooper.

I really like this.  I'm not a fan of subway tile and white gets too dingy too fast for this lazy person.

I don't like subway tile either. I prefer diagonal lines, curves or a solid piece for a back splash since cabinets and appliances are rectangular. I like your colors, but I'd look for a square tile turned diagonally (point at the top or whatever).

    This is an interesting idea.

It's too much natural stone for me personally.

I was trying to figure out why I wasn't totally into this, but I think this is why.

I think for me it's too traditional.

This was my initial feeling. However, this is NOT our forever home. We only plan to be here another 5-8 years. I do feel like this might be more of a timeless combo than the subway tiles, so that's a plus for resale.

This only thing we haven't purchased yet is the backsplash, so I have some time to think it over.

I'm a kitchen designer for a living. I think everything works well except the floor. It's too light and has a pink undertone. If you are going darker with the cabinets, etc...I would recommend a shade or two darker brown on the floor. Also, a 12x12 tile on the kitchen floor is very small. These days we would do 12x24 or 18x18. Hope this helps and good luck!

@jess.williamson The floor actually is almost the same color as the brown in the backsplash. I think it looks pink because its laying flat. It's a 9x12, that's going to be laid in a brick pattern.
