November 2013 Moms

Who has ditched the carrier/car seat?

B is getting bigger (just call me Captain Obvious). Her plus the weight of the carrier is getting a bit much to tote around, especially for my DH who has a bad back. She has great head control, but can't sit unsupported. I'm not sure she's ready for sitting in a shopping cart or restaurant high chair. Just wondering what others are doing.
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.

Re: Who has ditched the carrier/car seat?

  • We won't ditch the carrier until 7 to 9 months.

You can always keep the infant seat in your primary car and install a convertible to try out in the other car.

You can switch at any time, some people don't even use an infant seat.

  • I've been thinking about the same lately. We've mostly been carrying him on our hips in restaurants but shopping is still problematic. We may try a high chair in public soon. I'm so over the massive carrier. It's like dragging a cement block around!

  • I haven't ditched it yet. I just park by the cart return. I dislocated my elbow putting it in the cart a couple weeks ago so now I lift it with two hands. I finally found a carrier I like. If I don't feel like wearing him I'll have DD1 push the stroller or shopping cart. She did that when her sis was little too.

  • I never used one. I went straight into the convertible car seat. It's works great! When I go shopping I just wear L in the Moby or Boba. And when we go out to eat she either sits on DH's or my lap or she sleeps in one of the carriers on me.

  • I'll switch DD2 to the convertible car seat next month when DD1 turns 3 and we switch her to a booster seat.

We switched S to the convertible car seat a few weeks ago because he hated his infant carrier. He likes the new one a lot better because he can look out the window.

I carry him in the Tula, Lillebaby, or ring sling depending on where we're going. He's not quite big enough for high chairs at restaurants yet so he either sits on my lap or we bring his stroller in.
  • The only time the car seat leaves our car is at restaurants. We carry her in the Ergo.

  • We bought a cart cover that has a harness in it for infants...it can also be used to cover a restaurant highchair. She loves it! We only use the infant car seat IN the car and we are already looking to switch to the convertible seat soon

  • Thanks everyone! I love wearing B and will do that whenever I can. DH on the other hand can't with his back. She does well in restaurants on our lap, but I find it helpful if we have a place to out her down. I am just putting the finishing touches on a shopping cart cover that I've been making. That should work for carts and high chairs. Maybe we just need to give it a try. Wish me luck!

  • I don't plan to use the cart cover for germs. I just think they are cute and provide a little extra comfort. And since I can make it, it's not a big cost for me.
