Tetanus shot while pregnant?!

Hello
I have a doctors apt this afternoon and they are wanting to do a tetanus shot because I am due for one..the closer my apt gets I'm starting to worry if it could be harmful in any way to baby. I know my doctor wouldn't do it if it could be but anyone have opinions on this?? Thanks!

Have you heard of the tdap shot? It contains a tetanus booster and there have been discussions on here about it over the past few weeks...

I feel like this was discussed last week and the week before... Oh yeah, because it was. I'm on mobile and can't link but OP there's been other threads on this because tetanus is also given with the Pertussis vaccine that is also recommended.

Tdap=tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis. Pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine is recommended for all pregnant women, as pertussis can be fatal for newborns. Tetanus vaccine is combined with pertussis in the tdap or dtap vaccines. It is safe for your baby and routinely given to pregnant women to protect your baby.

I got mine two weeks ago and baby girl is still doing great! The shot itself doesn't hurt but afterwards my arm hurt for 48 hours. Just a heads up!

It's the current recommendation (CDC, ACOG, etc.) to give tDap to all pregnant women between 27 and 36 weeks. As PP's noted it passes immunity onto the baby via the placenta so they have protection before that can start their vaccine series at 2 months. I would recommend asking you doctor why they are injecting you with things so that you can get this information from them...that's what you're paying them for.

Especially because you can get vaccinated for tetanus separately. And I don't know why you'd need a tetanus vaccination only to have a baby.

I didn't read through all the posts, so sorry if this is a repeat. It recommended that pretty much all pregnant women get the Tdap vaccine to protect against pertussis. The Tdap also contains a tetanus booster....so there's your answer.

I got mine 2weeks ago cause she said I was due but I swear Iv had one prior we'll within the time frame. So I really think Iv had two done.

Just FYI, I think you mean "I've" as in the contraction for "I have".
