Because I am so awesome at polls...recall the wiping poll...I was wondering if you know where the keys are on a keyboard. @ballygirl says her keyboard is missing most of the letters but she still knows how to type. I never learned to type without looking at the keys...did you?

I have great typewriting skills. Funny but true story. I almost flunked out of keyboarding in high school. Now I have a 68wpm. I got good from having an internet relationship thru IM with my DH and then college.

We had a typing class starting in elementary school. Maybe like 2nd grade? So yes, I can type 120 WPM last I checked. No looking.

In 8th grade, all students, including the boys, had to take a typing class. We were tested weekly.

In high school, in order to graduate, all students had to take a BCIS course that taught us typing and how to use different programs on the computer (Excel, Word, etc.)

I only look if I'm having a bad day. I took typing courses in high school and college. And working in public relations, I had to learn to type quickly while not looking. I type 120 wpm

So I learned how to type like a boss on an old ass typewriter. So my typing skills are pretty bad ass. Most of the time if I make a mistake it is b/c I am on my phone or just being lazy.

I need to know...how in the world do type writers backspace???

I usually only have to look at the keys for special characters. I learned to type in 5th grade I think. Then in HS, I took a computer class (it was a req) and we had to take quizes for typing and speed. You learn pretty quickly not to look doing that.

I hate that I am old enough to answer this question, but my family got our first computer when I was about 14. Before that, we would hand write our reports and then type them on our typewriter. Ours had a ribbon of what was essentially white ink or whiteout tape. When you hit backspace, it moved back a space and there was some key you held to move the whiteout ribbon into place instead of the ink ribbon. If you hit the same wrong key again, it would put a white mark over it.

Yep add me to the I'm so old I remember when the internet was a new and exciting release pile.

I learned to type on a typewriter in high school. Our family didn't get our first computer until I was a teenager.

I remember Atari, and the Commodore computer (caveman version of pc). I spent quite a few years distrusting computers. It seems ridiculous to think of that now.

Learned in middle school on an Apple 2c then they upgraded to the Apple 2e. I learned on the program AppleWorks and had to learn to run DOS to run any program or disk like Oregon Trail and Where In the World is Carmen Sandiego.

My tiny town offered these elective choices (besides extra science and literature classes, which I also took): going to college? Keyboarding 1-2, office procedures, shorthand, and a computer class to learn half word perfect (Gah I'm soooo old) and half lotus. Not going to college? Shop and Home ec. Oh and you could also take the single language offered, Spanish.

I did all the business classes except shorthand. Best and most useful classes I have ever taken.

I took a typing class in high school that solidified my skills. I used to take my friend's speed tests for her bc she was never fast enough to pass them haha!
